Soon enough, Gardenia found herself at the front of the Old Chateau. Though it was still daytime, the old manor seemed as dark and spooky as ever. No ghosts were flying around outside... which meant that she would have to go inside to make sure there was a swarm, and deal with it if there was.
Despite the chateau's proximity to Eterna City, Gardenia had never been inside. She felt a chill creeping down her spine...
It's okay, she thought. It's just nerves, there's no ghosts... yet... Anyways, it's just a spooky old mansion. You can do this!
Taking a deep breath, she opened the door and walked inside.
The inside of the chateau was dark, surprisingly so given how bright it was outside. The light pouring in from outside only penetrated half of the foyer she was now in. Gardenia stepped forward, looking for a light switch.
SLAM!
"Eek!" Gardenia screamed, finding herself in pitch blackness. Something had shut the door behind her!
Whirling around, she tugged and pounded on the door, but it was firmly shut.
"I'm trapped!" Gardenia yelped. "Wait, gotta calm down!" she breathed, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a flashlight.
Turning it on, she checked all around her in a rush. Fortunately, she was alone, though that did little to ease her nerves. Still, being able to see again was progress, at least.
"Okay, okay..." she said out loud. "If I can't get out, then there's no choice other than to go straight on through. Keep it together..."
Searching some more, she found that there were two exits to the foyer. A large door on the first floor in front of her, and a pair of staircases alongside it leading to the second floor.
"Now if I were a ghost, where would I be?" Gardenia pondered, readying a pokeball in her other hand.
