"Be careful what you wish for...", but ...

Astrid's hand cautiously approached the glowing stone sitting in Gunna's open palm.

Scarlet sparks shot from it, racing round her fingers like tiny roiling bolts of lightning. Soon her hand was covered, until with a flash, they transformed into a flickering, dancing flame. It warmed her hand, shimmering between a deep purple and deepest blood red. As it shifted, it seemed to bob, offering a bow to the young viking.

An image flashed into Astrid's mind.

Instinctively, she jumped. The handsome viking was herself ...?... himself .... He was Arvid.... Arvid Hofferson.

Cursing her doubts, she reached out and grasped the stone from Gunna's open palm.

There was a shock wave, and consciousness vanished from Astrid.
