This choice: A future he finds repugnant • Go Back...Chapter #6A future he finds repugnant. by: Mr. George Staring deep into the crystal ball, Hiccup could make himself out in the glass. The shapes swirled around him, but he was unmistakable. The scrawniest figure that flitted and danced amidst the other figures.
Taking a moment to relax, seemed to help. The view of his alternative future came into focus. The swirling shapes taking on a more familiar shape and urgency. It was Berk, under dragon attack.
Hiccup saw himself wheeling his latest dragon trap, a net-flinger, to a high point for the best vantage point. The scene was too familiar, with everyone shouting 'you're in the way', or 'head for cover'. As he raced beyond the light of the village the voices faded behind, as he raced into the deepening dark.
The dragon attack was on the village, after all, that's where the sheep were, and the other food.

"I... I remember that night." Hiccup muttered to Gunna. Not sure if he was actually speaking out loud, or she was even listening. It was the night he captured... maimed Toothless. A bittersweet memory, meeting his truest friend, in the worst circumstances.
A gout of brilliant dragon fire lit the air around Hiccup, and his excitement suddenly shifted. He could see this was a different future. This was a different path. The Hiccup outlined by the glare was undeniably a viking woman. Still scrawny, and slim, but blessed with hips and tailored to enhance a subtle bust to make it appear almost average.
"I'm.... I'm a woman..." Hiccup asked the air.
He watched with fascinated horror, as she... she, wheeled the catapult, and primed it ready for use. Hiccup was frozen, as he watched herself scan the night sky for a target. She spotted the ripple in the air, the speeding destruction of a night-fury.
"Hiccup!" a voice bellowed, spoiling her aim. The net shooting off to splash down out at sea. Whirliing around, she looked for the source of the voice. "Hiccup, the chief sent me to keep you safe." The answer filled with resentment, defending the chief's daughter wasn't as glorious as the chance to face down dragons in defence of the village. In sight of everyone who'd see the brave deeds.
A tear dampened his cheek, that even in that alternative world, he was still seen as a burden... as a Hiccup. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
