It was that time of the year again. Time for the annual family camping trip! Every year, Donna's family would go to the mountains for a few days. They preferred secluded spots to established public campsites. With everyone being so busy lately, this mini vacation together might be their last for a long time. So, Donna was determined to make this trip a good one. She packed everything she needed; a telescope for looking at the stars; all the ingredients for making s'mores; and a wildlife field guide to identify the environment during a hike. Unfortunately, with all the new stuff packed, she had no room for extra clothes. Oh well, she thought, it's not like anything will happen to my clothes on this trip. Donna had planned to make this vacation memorable. She had no idea how right she was going to be.
It was about mid-morning when the family arrived at their designated spot at the base of the mountain. Donna got out of the pickup truck first to see the view. And what a view it was. Their campsite overlooked a beautiful forest, where the trees reached to the tops of the clouds. There was also a small lake about 20 minutes away-if you walked. She put her hands on her hips as she did this, covering her plaid red skirt.
"Hey, Sis!" Donna's sister called. "If you're done watching, we could use a hand here!"
Donna turned around. "Coming, Anna!"
She helped Anna and her parents get the camping supplies out of the back of the truck. After she was done setting up the tent, telescope, and campfire, she decided it was time for an activity.
"Hmm", Donna thought aloud, "what should we do first?" Maybe swim in the lake? Or go on a hike? Or even something different?
