Ken knew he had too weigh his options if he was to be shrunk by his family in any capacity, Kathleen was practically an alcoholic at 22 years old. It would be incredibly dangerous for him at an inch tall if she got intoxicated while he was around, at such a small size he could easily be crushed under her stumbling feet or pulverized by her giant ass if she accidentally sat on top of him.
Worse than Kathleen was his two younger sisters, Kelly and Rosie. Kelly was only nine years old and still in grade school, it wasn't so long ago that she was playing with dolls and crushing anthills in their backyard under her sneaker clad feet. A very disturbing imagine in Ken's mind when considering he'd be smaller than any doll his sister had ever played with, calmed slightly by the idea that he would be slightly bigger than an ant at one inch tall.
Rosie on the other hand was a different matter entirely, she was an absolute menace in Ken's life. Playing practical jokes on him constantly, always borrowing his stuff without asking for permission first. Not to mention the fact that she was just starting to go through puberty, so her behavior had become rather inconsistent lately.
Last but not least was Ken's mother Jennifer, who was by far the most trustworthy person in his intermediate family. However she was just so embarrassing to be around, if she was the person to shrink Ken then it would become public information. Shared with his sisters, posted on Facebook, the whole nine yards. Soon everyone would want to see him in his shrunken state, family friends, his cousins and aunt, his friends from school. It would be a completely humiliating experience for him to endure.
Ken needed time to focus, clearly he wasn't thinking right if his twelve year old sister Rosie was his first option. Maybe he should reconsider branching out from his intermediate family and asking a friend to help him with the scholarship. Although first he should probably get some fresh air in the backyard.
A few minutes later Ken opened the back door, carrying his shrink ray inside underneath his arm. He turned to close the door behind him, loosening his hold on the box under his pit. He tried to catch it with his elbow but it was simply to late to save it.
Ken watched as the box fell to the concrete below, hopeless to save it in time. The device popping out and firing a beam of light at Ken's body, shrinking him before he could even react or call out for help. The process was so quick it was over before he could blink. One second he was normal sized, the next he was comparing a concrete pebble to a large boulder.
"Oh shit!" Ken yelled, this was bad. Very very bad, sure being shrunk by his family was horrifying in his mind. But being shrunk while nobody knew about it was more than a thousand times worse. Now he could easily be walked right over and stepped on by anyone who happened to be walking in and out of the house. Worst of all would be Kelly, he'd already taken into consideration her bug crushing history and now he was no bigger than most bugs she had squashed into oblivion under her sneakers.
If that thought rolling around in Ken's mind wasn't bad enough, then he was about to have an even more horrifying realization. Everything surrounding him was over two times bigger than he'd every dreamed they'd be, this could only mean one thing. The device must have short circuited when it hit the ground and shrunk Ken to the absolute smallest setting possible, he was only 1 centimeter tall in comparison to one inch tall.
Cigarette buds were comparable to smaller vehicles like a sports car, a empty beer can left behind by his sister Kathleen stood at a height equal to sixty feet tall. These common objects made his heart sink as he imagined how impossibly huge his family members must seem at this size. Even Kelly being the shortest member of his family at four feet seven inches would essentially tower over him at nearly eight hundred feet tall. Easily as tall if not taller than most skyscrapers in New York City.
The shrink ray had slid underneath a nearby chair, making it unlikely to be seen by anyone walking out of the house. His chances of getting anyone's attention dwindling by the second. Just then ________ walked out of the house.
