The end of the school year still feels a lifetime away but everyone in your class is already talking about where they will be going for middle school.
It's your last year in elementary school and your town is too small for a middle school. All of your friends are being sent away to various boarding schools and it looks like the same will be happening to you.
"We need to decide which boarding school Daniel will be attending." your father brings up the subject again at breakfast. "The places will all be filled soon."
"I'm still not sure it's a good idea." Your mother says. "He's only a little boy."
"I'm not little." you protest weakly, not so sure you want to go to boarding school either.
"See. He's not worried." you father says. "All of the children in his class will be going to boarding school."
"Not all of them." your mother replies. "I know a few mothers who are keeping their children here and homeschooling them."
"And that's what you want to do?" your father asks. "Never let him grow up."
"It's not the only alternative." your mother says. "I might be able to arrange for him to stay with one of my friends in the city and go to school there."
"Well." you father finally asks your opinion. "Do you think you're enough of a big boy to go to boarding school?"
