As soon as you press the button, a bright laser shoots out from the orb down towards the Apple, filling your entire vision for a moment. You shield your eyes instinctively, though you still can only see a bright white blur as you hear a loud WHOOOSH followed by a sudden THOOM, and then... silence. The machine goes silent, and the only noise you hear is your slightly-heavier-than-normal breathing.
You lower your hand and then blink repeatedly, then rub your eyes, trying to regain your sight. Things slowly start to come back into focus, but as they do you begin to question if your eyes are actually working right. What you're seeing in front of you can't be real, can it?
But it is. In front of you, having crushed the platform it was sitting on and having knocked over the orb (thankfully without any damage, it appeared), was an eight-foot-tall juicy red apple, nearly reaching the ceiling.
You gasp. "Th-that's not what was supposed to happen!" you say out loud in astonishment. "Did I miscalculate...?" Your voice trails off as you look down at the console of your machine. Something seemed off; the dials and levers weren't in the same place that you left them. But that could only happen if...
"Kyle!" you yell out in frustration. Of course your little brother had something to do with this. He'd been bothering you about the machine for what seemed like forever; he must've snuck into your room and screwed around with things while you were in the bathroom. Well, now he was going to pay. Turning towards the door, you storm off towards his room to find him. "What did you do to my machine?"
From his hiding place underneath your pillows, Kyle can barely hold in his excitement at all that he saw. No, it wasn't a robot like he had thought, but it was something better! Something that made things big! Ever since before he could remember, Kyle would always fantasize about being bigger than Brandon, bigger than his parents -- bigger than everyone! And now, here was a device that could make his fantasies come true!
He knew he didn't have a lot of time. As soon as he was sure you were out of the room, he rolled off the bed onto the floor and then jumped up to the machine. Everything seemed to be set the same as before. He moved around the console to ensure nothing else was closer to the orb than he was. Taking a deep breath, he pressed the green button, and the orb lit up brightly just as you walked back into the room, gasping at what you saw...
