It was after a particularly filling dinner that Claire decided she had to say something.
For nearly an hour and a half, the two of them sat at the dinner table as Gran brought them plate after plate of delicious, greasy food. And while Jen was completely absorbed in her own eating, Claire was watching her mother carefully.
Despite the way Claire's life had become dominated by the need to eat, she realized that night that her mother was out-eating her. For three towering plates of food, Claire was able to keep pace with her mother. It took them quite a while to put it all away, and the third plate left them both breathing heavily, pants unbuttoned, bellies on full display.
Then, just as Claire was thinking that she couldn't eat another bite, her mom said words that filled Claire with dread.
"What's for *uuuurp* dessert?" Jen panted.
Gran was already on top of it - she'd prepared a decadent chocolate cake for the two of them.
"How much would you like, Claire honey?" Gran asked. Claire only shook her head, unable to fathom eating even more.
"More for me, then," Jen said, a twinkle of greed in her eye.
Gran pushed the cake towards her daughter, and Jen scooted as close to the table as her belly would allow. The chair and floorboards creaked beneath her weight.
Too full to move, Claire could only watch as her mom resumed gorging, pushing mouthful after mouthful down into her giant, churning stomach.
How could I have not noticed this sooner? Claire thought to herself, rubbing her own engorged belly. I have to say something, or my mom is just going to keep getting fatter and greedier.
All in all, Jen managed to polish off more than half of the cake on her own. It took her so long that by the time she called it quits, her face and belly smeared with chocolate, Claire had digested her food enough to make room for a slice of cake.

"Hey Gran, can we talk?"
Gran looked up from washing the dishes to see her big, blubbery granddaughter standing beside her, wearing clothes that were several sizes too small.
She'd never expected Claire to grow so quickly - she really was her mother's daughter. She'd clearly inherited her appetite.
"Sure baby, what's troubling you?"
"It's about the food you've been feeding us."
Uh-oh, Gran thought. Has she finally caught on?
"...I think," she continued, absentmindedly stroking her belly, "that it's making Mom fat."
Gran did her best not to laugh out loud. So that's what this is about! All that weight, and Claire still has no idea that she'd been getting fatter, too. Well, that was a relief. She knew Jen wasn't yet satisfied with Claire's growth. She still had a long way to go.
