Jane Hillway is a young woman having just graduated college. She currently works at a prestigious museum where she at first conducted her internship, and now she works full time as one of the top curators. The museum, known as the Montley Historical Society Exhibit, houses many rare and strange artifacts, with a large backlog of items that are very old and important, but have yet to be catalogued and displayed. It is in the backroom where all of these ancient artifacts reside that Jane spends most of her days. It was near the end of the workday, and just about the beginning of her weekend, when Jane encountered the strange object. It was a small, red clay statue that had been been purchased from a collector for a small sum. The man had seemed desperate to get rid of it, and of particular note, the collector's arm had been missing. Never the less, the museum purchased it because while its background was unknown, it was dated to at least several thousand years old and some good research would surely come from it.
Jane thought it was sort of terrifying. It wasn't normal statue; it was an effigy of a woman, or at least it was mostly a woman. There were multiple limbs, genitals and heads jutting out from odd angles on the statue, but in the middle was a curious rune that no one had been able to translate yet. Jane was tracing the symbol, something that looked like a two parenthesis and a long s character in the middle, with a curved x running across the whole thing diagonally. Her finger hit a rough spot, and she felt a prick as a drop of blood fell upon the marking. She yelped and brought her finger to her mouth and licked her wound. She made to grab a band-aid from the employee's room when she saw the symbol light up with a pale purple light. She sat there, transfixed. Nothing like this had ever happened before, even with the supposedly powerful and cursed artifacts they had in the collection.
However, the glow died down and it seemed as though nothing had happened. Jane calmed down too, already second guessing what she had just seen. She brushed it off as a side affect of working so long and so late. Instead, she resumed her work until another of the employees. her good friend and co-worker Anna, knocked on the open door leading to into her little study in the backroom. She told her it was time to go, but she had something else she wanted to say as well...
