The so-called "pleasure planets" exist in a scattered ring between the Inner Systems and the Outer Systems, and were the first to be colonised as part of the Second Expansion Phase, when mankind had grown confident in its taming of the inner planets and was once again looking to stretch its legs.
While many planets were colonised, the pleasure planets stood out for their generous climates abundantly suited to human needs, with earthlike gravity and atmosphere, and their surfaces covered from pole-to-pole by lush forest, abundant in food and devoid in mega-predators. Naturally, there was a rush to claim these bountiful worlds, and a space race cum land grab ensued as private armies and fleets - purchased by those billionaires, religious groups, and organizations rich enough to afford them - clashed planetside and in orbit over the rights of ownership. After years of fighting, as the space debris finally cleared, the victors were decided, quickly setting to the matter of converting their newfound worlds to fit their vision of paradise.
