A few steps away from your quarters you hop onto one of the trams which lead through the whole length of the ship. On the paper the 5km the ships block main body was long did not seem like that much: merely like a short walk which would take you an hour on a planet. But the ship was seldom build with straight lines and trails: instead it utilized an intricate system of tramps, elevators and even shuttle system from one hangar to another, to transport people and goods from A to B. That the passengers had their own area inside the ship which was hermetically shielded from the part were the real work took place, only made things twice as complicated. Sinking into the soft padding of one of the tramps seat, you closed your eyes and tried to think about how long it would reach you to reach one end of the ship from the other, the chip you got implanted in your head and the eye implant allowing you to view a virtual plan of the ship, and you were just about to....
"1 Day, 4 hours, 27 minutes and 40 seconds. With the best starting conditions for a person who can not only run for a long time, but also has an excellent grasp of the ship. Especially the climbing in elevator shafts raises the time needed."
You nearly jump out of your skin as the voice comes from your right and you can barely stop yourself from jumping out of your seat instead as you find yourself staring at a life-sized hologram of your ship AI`s self-image. A raven haired beauty with dark skin looks expressionlessly at you...with the tiniest hint of haughtiness....and even a spark of amusement...but maybe you are simply imagining this.
"I hope I did not scare you Captain Mason, if I did so I`m truly sorry.", the AI states simply and folds her hands in her lap, her dark hands contrasting with the white, Greek inspired, chiton she`s wearing. Helena wasn`t the first AI you had worked with but they were usually reserved for stations and large command vessels....that your ship one like her...
You snap out of these thoughts and instead give Helena a smile, after all its wise to be polite to the woman handling your oxygen supply.
"You did not scare my...that much Helena. And you can call me Thallia if we are alone and off duty...right now."
The AI`s holographic avatar tilts her head a little to the side and after a moment she nods and says:
"Preference saved, Thallia. I look forward to working with you as my captain."
Nodding softly you grin and answer: "As do I Helena, I never had to pleasure to work with an AI as advanced as you....would you mind to tell me how you are projecting yourself right now?"
"That is an easy question.", the dark skinned hologram said and continued to explain simply: "I`m using the direct connection the company chip offers me to your implants, to change the data your ocular implant is sending back...I duplicate it to keep your two visions the same and your brain does the rest... ", she indicates down at her holographic form....which shifts for a moment and becomes totally lifelike, making you believe that you would have thought of her as a normal human without knowing this beforehand.
"Wait....you can do that? The company never told me about it!", you exclaim as realization hits you, but the ship merely gazed at you curiously: "Is there a problem? You seem agitated captain. The chip connection is simply a safety measure and is very useful Thallia."
