Chapter #4

It's your father coming home.

    by: CyberUnitItalia Author IconMail Icon
As Josef, Solara's father, drove home, he fidgeted slightly in his seat.
He was on the brink of being a nervous wreck, his automotive workshop business having been extremely busy, mostly with bad customers. It didn't help that his wife had also been constantly called to work, Josef wasn't even sure when was the last time he and her spent more than an hour together in the same room. And so the bad mood compounded with, well, more physically affecting needs.
The week had been such a blur that it took his wife calling him up not even an hour prior to remind him that their daughter was at home.
He groaned, his hands tight against the wheel as he pulled up to the house. His original plan was to 'relieve' his built up tension, but as long as his daughter was there, he wouldn't dare it.

---

As the house was dead silent, it did not take much to discern the sound of keys disengaging a lock and a door opening. With a quick glance at your phone's clock, you confirmed that it was about the right hour for your father to be back.
You're honestly a little excited to be seeing your father again. Despite modern tech making video calls almost trivial, he wasn't too interested in that. That, and the last year and half had you really neck-deep doing your best at trade school and trying to keep up with or dodge your roommates' shenanigans.
Hurriedly putting your top back on, you spring down the bed and out of your room. Your legs carry you expertly down the stairs, and just as you were expecting your father to come into view, you cannot help but freeze, eyes wide and jaw slack.

---

“Uh oh...” Josef thought. “She's staring.”

Indeed his daughter was holding onto the stair's railing for dear life, your claws locked in place as you couldn't help but gawk.
You thought that puberty had ran you over. Your father seemed to instead having stole someone's else for all it was worth and then some.
Standing in the hallway in front of the main door, his form filled it side-to-side, and quite a bit in height too. You remembered your mother being the big one in the house, fitting just barely through some of the doorways. Yet, there your father stood. When you last saw him, a year and half ago, he was just eye-level with your jaw, and while he was well fit, he wasn't too far from the average. That would have put him at about 6' (1.82 m) tall and about 180 lb (82 kg), if you remembered correctly. The man in front of you now blew that out of the water. Easily 6' 10” (2 m), and if you had your math right probably one and half times or even twice his original weight.

“Uhm... hi sweetie.” Josef said, raising an enormous 21” arm to scratch the back of his head in awkwardness, trying to smile the tension away. “I... uh... surprise!”
         “Dad?” You breathed.
“Yup, that's me.” Josef chuckled. “I guess you weren't expecting.... 'this'.”
“'This'?” You yelped. “W-wha... how... when...”

You stepped down from the last of the stairs, relaxing your grip on the poor railing. A handful of steps are all that separate you from your hulking father, and very hesitantly approach.

“Look, I know it's a lot to take in.” Josef tried to explain, gesturing to go in the living room.

A part of you was honestly relieved that all that muscle hadn't apparently gone to his head.
As you entered the living room, he follows right behind you, seemingly respecting a 'safe distance' given your reaction. As you take a seat on the couch, you see him sit on the sofa on the opposite side of the room. He apparently tries his best to make himself look slightly smaller than he is, but his fidgeting only makes it worse as his clothing almost begs for mercy from how stretched it is.

“So, how to explain this...” He begins.

Silence falls in the room, the embarrassment so strongly reciprocated that it was no wonder both of you tried to keep your gazes away from each other.

Your father was the first to break the silence.
Josef explains how, after you went back out-of-state for your studies, he thought it'd be great to try something new, and your mother had the brilliant idea of having him sign up to a new gym that opened a short time after you left just a couple blocks from home. He really enjoyed it, and so did your mother. One thing led to another and soon he was doing amateur bodybuilding competitions. Although he's been off the stage for a couple months, he still strives to maintain that form.

You can't help but frown. His story is sound, and he was never one for lying to family, yet you can't shake the feeling that something is off. No one can 'just' double their body's weight in sheer muscle in barely a year, no matter how juiced or well gifted they could be.

“You... don't believe me?” Josef sighed, sounding defeated.
“Dad, no offense, but...” You sighed as well in return. “You're... you're looking really good and all. But you can't possibly have gained all that in less than a year with just good workouts.”

You see your father almost deflate, as much as a wall of muscle like him could anyway. He sighs and stands up, crossing his arms for a brief moment before he suddenly brightens up.

“I know! Listen, since you're back in town, you'll be looking for a gym to go to, right?” He said, looking a bit too cheery.
“Hold up.” You quip, standing up as well. “I know what you're doing! You want me to go to your same gym! I... I don't know if that is such a good idea.”
“Oh come on.” Josef approached, attempting to playfully wrap a hand around your shoulder. “We don't have to work out at the same time, besides, what are you afraid of?”

You were unsure how to answer. He was right in pointing out that you would be looking for a gym to sign up, and not only this gym was relatively close, but if your father was such a good patron of theirs, they might give you a small discount.
Then you stole a glance at your father's body. So close to you as he was, you could really measure his muscles. Twice his original weight might have been a pretty conservative estimate. No point in lying to yourself, he was indeed looking good. An intrusive thought fleeted through your mind, making you wonder what you could achieve instead with the same effort.

With him right next to you, the best moment to make a decision was now.
