Sokka was grinning from ear to ear as he walked into the dressing room of the Ba Sing Se Academy Cheer Squad. Just like his father before him, he would be a proud member of the cheer team, beating the thunderous taiko drums, leading the crowd in cheers and jeers for their team and the opposing one, and wearing the proud colors of their school.
Yes, truly Cheer Squad was a club for men. It was a sport of testosterone and thunder, the booming of drums, the blowing of horns, the bellowing of hotblooded fans.
Yes.
Cheer Squad was the ideal club for somebody as passionate and manly (no matter what Katara might say) as himself.
So it was with a wide, proud grin on his face that Sokka strode into the changing room, eager to greet his fellow hotblooded teammates.
It took a moment for his brain to register, when he stepped through the door, that everything went silent the instant he walked in. And it took another moment for him to notice that all of the other people he saw appeared to be girls. Another moment after that, he realized that all of these girls were very attractive, and also in varying states of undress, likely in the process of changing into uniforms.
All eyes were on him, in that moment, and Sokka suddenly understood why Coach Macmu-Ling had seemed so amused by his request to join the cheer squad. He blushed beet red.
"Uh, hi," he said, raising a hand nervously. "I'm Sokka. I'm your new teammate?" he said, sounding more uncertain than he intended to.
