Marco needed to be brought down to size. Specifically, he needed to be brought from above-average stature to one that left him vulnerable to the world around him. You decided to shrink him down to an inch tall; at that height, it wouldn't be long before the football star would end up crushed, devoured, enslaved, or one of many potential fates that followed in that vain.
The transformation is a rapid one. In a manner of seconds, the six foot tall Marco diminishes in height, shrinking down to a miniscule one inch tall. Even his clothes are shrunken with him, leaving not a single indication of the change that had befallen him. Meanwhile, on the pavement of the park path, Marco was left dazed by the change. His brain could not clearly comprehend the massive change in perspective of seeing from six feet tall to being on a field of asphalt.
Unfortunately for him, his mental cloudiness and general position was completely unknown to the jogger, who had made up the distance that separated the two. She was only a few feet away from Marco and heading straight towards his position!
