Twilight and her friends were all wearing hard hats provided by Pinkie Pie, to the bewilderment and amusement of the rest of the crew. Pinkie's tail had been twitching almost since she rose from her bunk that morning and so Twilight, once she had been appropriately attired, had been conducting lifeboat drill and inspections practically non-stop, which mitigated the amusement of the crew with annoyance.
The captain was just about to give Twilight a peace of his mind regarding procedure when Rainbow Dash pointed out some disturbing cloud formations slowly working their way over.
"Twilight," She asked, "Do you happen to know of anywhere aside from the Everfree Forest where clouds move by themselves?" Twilight seemed a touch bothered by this.
"Nearly everywhere outside of Equestria's borders." She replied. "Where neither pegasi, unicorns or griffons dwell in sufficient numbers the weather operates almost without direction. I believe I made mention of this the day before we set sail."
"Yer shouldn't have waited 'til night t'tell us." Applejack pointed out. "By the time ya got that far Rainbow'd tanked 'erself up on the local winyard." Twilight face-hoofed at this.
"Whatever the situation," The captain declared, "Them clouds look like a storm brewing. All hooves on deck, storm imminent!"
By the time the storm hit the sun was dipping towards the horizon, but Celestia's conclusive duty of the day went unnoticed by the ponies on-ship for the clouds obscured the sun in a seemingly merciless manner. Twilight had rallied her friends round to aid the crew in this situation. Rainbow Dash was in the rigging, tugging at the ropes while on the wing to aid in the steering of the vessel. Applejack was supporting the helmsmare's efforts to keep the rudder on course. Twilight herself was focused on keeping everything on deck tied down while Pinkie Pie was focused on catching various items below from falling off the shelves. Rarity and Fluttershy, meanwhile, were operating as ship surgeons, for want of a better title, tending to anypony who ended up in an accident.
