Dr. Abbott said, "It looks like our best candidates for the transfer, in my machine, are Jack and Sue. Your brain waves are extremely compatible. If you will follow me to the lab we can begin."
"Wait!" Jack said, "Couldn't I exchange bodies with either of the other 2? There is no way I will be a fat middle aged woman. Let me out of here."
"Look you stupid kid I need the money. Do you think I'm looking forward to having acne again?" asked Sue.
"Jack it would set the program back months before we find 2 subjects that match as well as the pair of you. It's only for a month, and we'll put you in a 5 star hotel for your stay. Free room service, FIOS, and $1000 a week spending money. Plus we will raise the bonus to $15,000. Just sign the contract," Dr. Abbott said.
"What the hell. It's only a month. Where do I sign?" Jack asked.
The Dr. said, "Smart choice, now sign here.
Jack and Sue signed and the Dr. took her test subjects to the lab. Her assistant Tom was warming up the machine. Jack and Sue were placed in a glass box, the size of a phone booth, facing each other. Dr. Abbott was at a control station, just behind them, as she threw several switches. Different color lights flashed as the booth filled with blue smoke. Sue and Jack stared coughing, then almost what looked like an epileptic seizure. Jeff at first thought he had passed out, as the smoke cleared in his booth. He saw his old body in the other booth. He saw his old body coughing in the booth with thick black smoke. He tried to get the attention of Dr. Abbott. She was busy wrestling with her console, when it exploded, and caught fire. Jeff watched in horror as Dr. Abbott was burned alive, and Sue was no longer visible in her smoke filled tube.
The fire now engulfed Sue's tube, and kept spreading. Tom pulled Jack out of his tube, it was too late for Sue. Tom dragged Jack outside the building as the fire spread through out the building.
Tom asked, "Who are you, Sue or Jack?"
"I'm, I'm Jack. What happened?"
"The fluxcapacitor must have overloaded. The Dr. is dead! The machine is ruined!" Tom said.
"How am I going to get back to being young again? Jack cried out.
"The machine's secrets died with Dr. Abbott. You are going to have to get used to the fact, you are stuck in that body."
"Noooooo! I can't go on as a fat old woman. You've got to do something!"
"It will be years before anyone even tries to make another swapping machine. You will have to make the best of it. You're new body is relatively healthy, you're only 47. Most of all, you are still alive," said Tom.
