You’re returning late from class. You’re a university student struggling to manage in the big sort, and one of those struggles seems to be not having your mother around to remind you to bring an umbrella. By the time you finally leave your chemistry lab a storm has rolled in; raining thick sheets across the quiet city streets. You precariously struggle to hold your back over your head and stumble as quick as you can home pacing under overhangs as often as you can.
Very few people out unless they’re in a car, unlike you, they’re all probably safe at home already. That‘s why what you see soon after catches your eye. A man stumbling in the streets slowly turning the corner, pale as a sheet wearing a ratty sweater and pants but no shoes in sight, looking like a soaked rat as he’s suddenly gripping his side in pain and lying face down in a puddle. Without hesitation you toss your bag to the ground and rush to his side. “Hey, are you okay?” Up close now you can feel his thinner frame through his clothes, and try pulling his wet black hair out of his face. He pants in pain and can’t seem to respond so you quickly start fishing for your cell phone to call him an ambulance.
You nearly shout as you feel his hand grab your wrist, making you drop it out of shock. “Pl-lease, don’t let them find me.” He groans. You study his features trying to fathom why he didn’t want to be found, And where did he come from. Caught up in these thoughts you almost don’t notice the grip on your wrist slowly shifting.
From far away hid didn’t seem all that tall, above average at about 6’1” you’d guess, but looking at his clothes they looked baggy in the rain but the hem of his pants still hovered many inches above his ankle. As you stare the grim on your wrist seems to grow wider, and the distance between his long sleeve and wrist visibly grows longer. It all comes crashing down on you as this mysterious man grows slowly taller gripping his sides. Your brain scrambles to find an explanation but comes up empty when the growing quickly stops. You don’t know exactly how much he grew, maybe six inches, not enough for anyone in the distance to notice, but to you the change was more than obvious.
“U-uh... w-what wa—!”
“Please, you have to help me... I need... I need someplace to hide.” He interrupts you out of breath gripping to your shoulders. “My name is Bryce, I’ll explain as much I can but, you have to help me!”
