Before the group of us could leave the school, an announcement came on the loudspeakers.
The snotty voice of Darcy Lewis said "This is Principal Lazenby. Everyone please report to your first period classrooms and sit in your regular seats. From there, we will find out who everyone is and try to get you reunited with your families."
I was reluctant to leave Claire.
"We'll meet up soon, "she said. The group swapped phone numbers, and me and Tyler started walking to our first period class. As I walked, I heard people saying quite loudly, "I wonder who was unlucky enough to get Chloe's body?"
I walked to my first period class and slumped down in my usual seat. Everyone laughs when Mrs. Johnston, a usually frumpy looking teacher, walked in in the body of Stefanie Hill, a large breasted cheerleader.
After taking attendance, Mrs. Johnston put up a live feed of the news on YouTube on the smartboard. The class watched intently.
"For those of you just tuning in, the public is starting to call this event 'The Big Swap' said a man on the Tv, "it has seemingly swapped bodies of the world population, and a whopping 95% of the world have found themselves in different bodies. At 10:43 this morning, the strange occurrence started in Belgium and made it's way around the rest of the world, hitting America at 10:45. A single island in the u.s. territories region has reported that not a single swap occurred on the island."
"Also, "said the female anchor, "world governments are frantically racing to find out who everyone has become, in order to get swapped individuals back to their loved ones. It has been confirmed that this is not the action of any known terrorist orginization, and Belgian officials have not realeased any statements of strange sightings or activity within the country. I'm Brent Herkel, bringing you the real news."
"And I'm Kristine Johanson, "said the man, "more details on this story as it emerges."
The class erupted in pandemonium. "Does this mean we could be stuck like this forever?" shouted Liza Chen, a nerd, whose body was being inhabited by Kristen Lang, a popular girl.
Eventually, Mrs. Johnston got the class to settle down.
"I've just received word that everyone will have to stay in the school until further notice. Mrs. Poppy and Mr. Rooney are out getting sleeping bags as we speak.
The whole class started screaming again, shouting that they needed to get back to their families.
"Children, settle down! Now, we don't quite know exactly what bodies your parents are currently in. The governments around the world are frantically trying to find out who everyone is. Please, remain calm, but until we can get you reunited with your families, you're going to have to stay here.
"Boys will be sleeping in the gym. Girls in the lunch room, "says Mrs. Johnston.
A kid raised his hand. "What if you also swapped genders in the swap? " he asked.
"Go to the room for your original gender. We'll have a live news feed up in the library all night."
The kids all started asking questions, but Mrs. Johnston silenced them.
"Everything will be better in the morning."
"Easy for you to say, "grumbled Kristen Lang.
