Chapter #4

Mombasa the Veteran

    by: ItsMe Author IconMail Icon
         You lied there contemplating
Between your arms was the woman you loved. She was the only woman who stood up for you during your trials at home, Annekke. You brush her grey hair from her silver body. She rested on your biceps, making it hard to subtly leave. You didn't mind. You enjoyed her embrace, her chest lift and lower as she breaths. It brought comfort to your heart. Something you didn't feel since you last wife, Rachel, perished. The cool air tells you it's time to go,requiring you to leave Annekke's warm comfort. You slowly slide your arm from under her head, careful not to wake her.You rested her head down gently on the folded handkerchief pillow. You got off the floor, careful not to rip your napkin bed sheets.
You slept in your trousers the previous night. Always best to be prepared. You grab your dufflebag and began to head out. A voice stopped you in your tracks. "Honey?" It was Annekke. You turn and see her gazing at you with tired eyes. "I love you, Basa, you stay safe out there."
You walk up to her and kiss her forehead. "I always am." You smile. Turning away, you exit the room through a wooden flap.

Ten minutes travel and you've arrived at Zurv. Named after the serial code on the wooden splint just as you walk in :ZRV. This colony is unwelcoming to outsiders. The way they see it, the less people traveling here, the less likely Risa will find it. However, you've known a few occupants for over a year, the people here are more tolerant with you. Zurv is a simple colony: a doctor, a builder, a few hands for hire, even a brothel. You're not here for a cook, or a general shop; you're here for the tailor. You walk through the streets of dozens of micen going out the day to day basis. A vagrant retracts his feet from the road so you don't trip as you enter the tailors shop. It was dark, a makeshift wax candle was the only light source other than the candles outside.
"John," you call. The young blue boy was sowing seems of a pair of pants, you looked up with the small needle in his mouth.
"Boss, glad you made it." He kicked a box towards you. "They're in there." You lay down your dufflebag and pull out a chocolate egg along with some wrapped bread. "You managed to get away with one?" John gestured to the egg, "I didn't believe you at first, but now..." He made a amused whistle.
You picked up the box, reciting "Thank you," and headed out.
The tailor said his farewell, "You stay safe out there. Don't get ate."
You look over your shoulder. "You too."

You have the following choices:

1. Part 1: Time to head home

2. Part 2: Two cheeky kids rob you

3. Part 3: Unfinished business
