Stealth be damned, she's in trouble!
You burst open the door and looked around. Shieki was nowhere in the living room. You noticed Mango, whom in turned noticed you. You pointed to the nearest mouse hole and gestured at him to run. He then pointed above you, right before something landed on your neck.
You quickly grabbed it, noticing that it's the shape of a micen. You pulled your fist in front of you to reveal a frightened figure attempting to stab at your hands with a needle. You have had enough arrogance. You've tightened your grip and pinched his neck. With a simple twist, you've snapped his skull from his neck.
You dropped him, and continued on your way to the kitchen before he even hit the ground.
In the kitchen, you saw what you've feared most. Shieki was lying on the floor unconscious as was huddled by micen who intended to swarm her and killed her. Though they only had one to go and kill the finishing blow. A yellow mouse, armored, in a hoodie and with a fancy needle. She stepped towards Shieki and drew her blade. You're not going to stand for this.
"Excuse you, little punk ass." You growled, "Am I interrupting something?"
The mouse turned around, revealing her face. You... You know her. You've tried being friends with her months ago.
"Serena?" You asked, almost shocked that the little brave mouse is now attempting to kill a neighbor. She also was the one who charged at you at Kert. She's behind this whole Sect thing?
Serena had the same surprised face. It seems she didn't expect both her plans to be thwarted by the same person. Her surprised face soon turned to anger and grief, blinding her with rage and making her shake her needle uncontrollably as she realized that now she's unable to complete her task.
While she had her back turned, Thorrow jumped off of Shieki's head towards Serena. When the yellow mouse turned around, she was met with a fist directly towards the face. Serena, however, was quicker. She dipped back, making the fist plant into the tin armor she wore, negating most damage and spreading the force throughout the plate.
Thorrow's bravado was replaced with a painful scream.
"Thorrow!" You caught yourself screaming her name as Serena impaled her with her needle. The blue mouse was stunned, and made another gasp of insurmountable pain as Serena pressed it in further with enough strength to lift her off the ground.
As Serena pushed the wounded girl to the side to ready her weapon against a bigger threat, she was struck with a horrifying image. Shieki was well awake, diving her head at the mouse with full speed.
Serena tried to hop to the side, out of the way of certain death but was much too slow. Shieki snagged her arm and bit down hard. Serena's blood curling screech pierced the air as her left arm disappeared past a closed, blood stained row of teeth. Shieki twisted her head, swinging Serena over her shoulder onto the counter, an arm short of a full person.
You heard one of the mice call Serena's name. Following his call, several micen appeared from any place they could hide.
Shieki, with quick thinking, picked up the wounded Thorrow and ran towards you. She didn't get far. Micen swarmed her, digging their needles into her legs. Whether due to the pain or damage to the muscle, Shieki tripped, releasing Thorrow onto the island. Shieki covered her head and neck as more micen hopped onto her.
You were too busy kicking and swatting off the ones who tried their chances with you. This made them turn all their efforts one the white she-cat.
You grabbed Shieki from her shoulders and tried to drag her out of the kitchen. She was heavy, but before you could get fatigued, you felt another leona step next to you.
Risa!
She helped you pull Shieki. The moment she was past the arch, Risa made sure to swipe off any and all who were on her. Shieki's back was dotted with bleeding puncture wounds.
When all the micen were off Shieki, you both pushed her towards the open space int he center of the living room. There, micen won't get the jump on her.
"Solace," Risa called your name and pointed, to the wounded cat, "Make sure they don't get to her."
"What are you going to do?" You asked.
Risa stepped away from you, headed to the other direction, splitting the incoming micen force in half.
Risa took a swig of a bottle she brought from her room, before smiling, "I'm going to kill them all."
Serena couldn't believe it. She's dying. She failed her one mission, her one promise to herself. The plan is a mess. Damn that Solace. To think she could have been friends with her. To think that cat might have changed. Solace ruined everything. An entire years worth of planning.
Serena took deep, painful breaths. She couldn't feel her left arm. She kept her head facing the ceiling. She needn't dare look. She knows there is nothing there but a bleeding stub.
She was laying herself against the sink. Planning to die on anything but her back. She will die knowing she lost her only chance to slay the slayers of kin.
She heard something. A voice. It called for Thorrow's name. Young, sensitive, naive. Grimlock? No. Mango?
Serena lowered her head to look in front of her. There stood the ghost of Mango, clasping Thorrow's dying hands, listening to he pain filled screams, weeping over her body.
That's not a ghost.
His face was much older. His height much taller. That's the real Mango! He survived? How?
"Mango..." She had so many questions! So much to tell him! She wanted to say hello for the last time, to know if he was safe.
He did not respond to his name. He cried over the slowly stilling Thorrow.
"Mango...?" Why is he ignoring her? What did she do? She did all of this for him! She rasied armies, controlled colonies. Her son died in the steps it took to get here! Why is he not coming? All she wants to do now is say good bye for the last time, for him to know she's not afraid to die now that he's alive.
Serena looked around. She can no longer hear the cries of Thorrow, or Mango, but rather that of her colleagues, her kin; her army. Her army set to kill, to die for her gain. She could hear and recognize every whimper and yell of agony as the young and old were sent to their deaths. They didn't stand a chance against three of the demons. What has she done?
"Mango...!" She cried weakly, ignored once again as tears streamed off of her face faster than the blood seeping out of her missing arm. She reached out with her missing arm. She wanted to hold onto him. To grab him. To hug him. To die in his arms. As her vision blurred and faded, as Thorrow's chest stilled, she realized what she wanted all along. All this time. All these months.
She wanted to say that she was sorry.
It was over. It was all over.
In your hand was one of the last of the Sect. His body was broken, bent in ways you've never seen before. You don't even remember inflicting the pain. Shieki was now weeping over Thorrow's body.
Risa was tossing a new victim into her mouth, biting the tail off and chewing him up.
"You were right, Risa." You caught yourself saying. "These micen aren't people. People don't just attack like this. They don't raise armies just to murder. These are animals. Animals that don't know right from wrong." You looked amongst the corpses, noting the somber air.
Thorrow lied dead in the white cat's arms.
"I should have never listened to Shieki. I should have killed Serena when she attacked me first." You bowed your head, "I need some time alone."
You walked out of the apartment. Your heart was beating out of your chest, your throat had a knot in it like a mouse that can't get swallowed.
You walked away, leaving behind you any respect you had for micen in general. You wished you never changed. You're going back to when it was a simpler time.
Mice are food, not friends.
