This choice: Part 1: Time to head home • Go Back...Chapter #5Coming into trouble by: ItsMe You step out of a hole at the base of a living room wall.
The contents in the box you carry were, to you, worth chocolate. You looked around every corner near you. The giantess that lives here is the most voracious one around. Other leonas play with their food, sometimes even to the point that they don't eat them. However, Risa, she doesn't need a reason. She tends to eat most, if not all, micen she catches. Risa scared off many micen who used to live here, merely because she keeps over eating them. You aren't sure if that was Risa's plan all along. What ever she's planning, you take every precaution not to be next on the menu.
She wasn't anywhere in sight. You moved towards the couch in the center of the room. There's several boxes of her stuff in there. She never has enough room to place them anywhere. You hid between the cardboard boxes and moved between them. A sweet scent inside one of the boxes reminded you of the chocolate you spent to get this box. The bag of eggs was surrounded by containers of sprinkles and other succulent delights. You wouldn't dare take any more than one thing. You know better than that.
You worked your way through the boxes to a hidden trap door. You open it and jump on through. It was dark, but you've been here enough times to know where to go. The twists and turns don't distract you. There is only one tunnel that doesn't lead to a dead end. You've been meaning to dig your way to Zurv, but you haven't found the time to finish it. You head through the hall and knocked on a small hatch on one of the walls. It opens, revealing the silver furred woman you loved.
"Mombasa!" She helped you through and hugged you tightly, "Did you get them?"
You opened the box and pilled out a pair of shirt and pants.
"Daddy?" A small micen was at an arch rubbing her tired eyes. She was grey with black hair and her mothers green eyes. She's five months old, as well as her two brothers. But most importantly, she's yours.
You smiled sincerely, "Seraph, I got you and you're brothers a present." She gasped as she saw the clothes.
She picked the ones in your arms. "These seem too big, daddy."
"You'll grow into them." You smiled, carrying the box through the circular arch and laying the clothes on the sleeping boys. In the cot to the right was Caw, one who had his fathers black hair and mothers silver skin. Laying next to him was Gino, Who had grey hair and a dark grey body. Seraph took her new clothes off and you laid her on your large cot that you never use. She doesn't like sleeping next to her 'smelly' brothers. As you walk into your living room, you noticed Annekke folding the blanket and pillow you've both slept on.
"How much food did they cost?" She asked softly.
"Nothing that can not be replaced." You answered. It's upsetting whenever you hear her talk about food, however you understand why she worries. For ever less piece of food stored, the sooner you have to go out and gather.
Annekke got up and hugged you. "I had a nightmare when you were gone. It was Risa. She caught you-"
"It was only a dream." You interrupted harshly. She looked down, hurt from the tenacity of your words. You sigh, upset you let your temper get you, "I'm sorry. That was nothing to snap at. You don't have to worry about me, I've been doing this for years. I know every way out, and what not to take."
She was silent at first. "I saw the egg in your bag... Risa could have caught a whiff of that and you'd be dead."
"It's the universal currency. You know this."
"It's the thing that gets most micen killed." She locked eyes with you. No, that would be greed. You bit your tongue. Her green eyes grew teary. "Please, just don't die." She burrowed her head in your chest.
A week passed.
You were on your way back with a dufflebag full of bread, cereal flakes, and some crushed graham crackers. You hid behind some kitchen appliances, taking your time. You can see the hole at the counter that is a long road to Zurv.
But it's safe.
You take three steps out of hiding and then you felt something snag your tail. You jump and turn around. Pinched between two fingers, your tail was pulled towards the edge of the counter. You were angry. Angry at your hurt knees and elbows that you landed on, angry at your hurt ego. Angry at yourself.
"Whatcha got there?" Risa asked. You tried to keep a cool head and swung the dufflebag off your shoulder. You didn't try to look at Risa. You held it out, hoping Risa will take it rather than your life. You heard her hum, with a glance you noticed a tail was hanging from her lips. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
