This choice: Fine, fine, fine. Just get to the TFs • Go Back... "Brandon, would you hurry up?" Zack yelled at his little brother. Brandon was dawdling, watching some geese swim around the lake. He could see geese any day of the year, in any part of the country. For some reason, he waited until he was at Disney World to become fascinated by them.
Zachary Roman won a contest, granting him VIP passes to attend Walt Disney World for six days. He got to bring his family, plus three friends. It would have been the trip of a lifetime if not for Brandon. Brandon, being nearly half the age of the older boys, was a drag. On day one, he wanted to ride all the kiddie rides. They all had lines two hours long, and they ate up the entire day. On day two, they finally got to try Splash Mountain, but the final drop scared Brandon so bad, he had to go back to the hotel. Zack and his friends begged his parents to take Brandon, leaving them at the park, but they refused. Even a place like Disney World wasn't safe for four unsupervised boys.
It was now day five, and everybody was touring Epcot. They were stalled by Brandon on the bridge into the World Showcase; eleven pavilions decorated to emulate eleven different nations, all circling an artificial lake. It was a 1.2 mile walk through all eleven countries, not counting any visits to attractions, rides, shops, or performances. It would take several hours to see it all, and at Brandon's pace, they'd be lucky to see four.
"Happiest place on Earth, my butt," Matt said with a sneer.
"That's Disneyland," Joe said, correcting his friend. "Over in California. We're at Walt Disney World."
"Shut up, Joe. Nobody likes a know-it-all."
"Guys, c'mon," Aaron said, trying to stop the squabbling, "just try and have a good time."
"I'm sick of trying to have a good time! I want to actually have a good time." Matt said, his frustrations growing. "We only have, what, a day and a half left? What have we done so far? We've done a bunch of piddly baby crap."
Joe interjected. "I mean, it's a kid's amusement park. Most everything was designed for little kids."
Matt gnashed his teeth. "Joe, I swear to god, I will throw you over the railing and into the lake."
Aaron shook his head, "Zack, I'm not trying to dump on your brother, but could you please just ask your parents once more to let us go on our own?"
Joe nodded, "Yeah, I checked the park rules and everything, you only gotta be 14 to be unsupervised. We qualify for that."
Matt piped in. "They take Brandon, we have fun, I won't have to cram him into the overhead compartment on the flight home. Everybody wins."
Zack sighed, "Guys, I asked them five times since we walked through the front gate. They're not budging. They said if I asked one more time, they're leaving us at the hotel tomorrow and taking Brandon alone."
The boys all groaned. The entire vacation was like this. Everybody was at each other's throats. It was now day five of Zack's vacation, but Brandon had so far dictated everything they got to do, see, and experience. Zack wasn't happy. His friends weren't happy. And Brandon didn't mean it, but he knew he was making them unhappy. This made him unhappy, too.
There's an important rule at Disney World that isn't listed anywhere. It's not listed, but it's the most important rule at the park. And everybody must follow it. Simply, Nobody is allowed to be unhappy. Sometimes it's as simple as employees making the visitors smile, or giving them a free treat. Other times, as the boys were about to discover, this meant more drastic actions. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
