He didn't notice the sound at first. His attention was naturally on his surroundings. But then he felt the first tremor and a moment after that he heard the slap of bare feet on floor. With his options limited, Scott bolted back toward the car. He knew it wouldn't do as far as protection went but it was better than being out in the open. He'd just made it back to the car when the footsteps stopped in front of the closet door. With his heart pounding he jumped into driver's side and laid down on the passenger side seat as the door opened. A powerful gust of wind blew dust around the car as the air was displaced. If he'd been out in that when the door opened he might well have been blown out into the hallway.
