It was Jim's only condition, and the one factor he stuck too despite the opposition of the scientist and the officer. He wanted to stay in contact with his daughter. She was studying at the University, and with the divorce still fresh, he wasn't about to move on losing her too.
Eventually winning them around with a promise not to reveal his identity to her, and a blanket acceptance of whatever disguise he was made to wear. He even left Dr. Yamato to splice the DNA, uninterested in the rests, he just wanted to keep some part of his old life.
Officer Olsen warned him about the power of Edwards' influence even inside the station. That his original ID would be compromised, and his family observed. But, he nodded resolute that he'd stay away from his daughter, happy to just observe her... and if safe, a casual shared coffee or something that wouldn't stand out.
Officer Olsen and the Professor exchanged a look, neither of them believing a word. But, Jim's indifference to the disguise body left him open. Besides, Professor Yamato had a few genetic tricks that could ensure that Jim was unable to reveal his identity. A favourite was reducing the suspect to a babbling fool, literally incapable of speaking a certain phrase, or thinking certain thoughts without triggering this he witness from saying their name as anything other that of the disguise.
A kinder, or nastier option involved the coding in of English as a second language, or blocking it entirely from him. The replacement with Arabic, or Japanese had a particular appeal, being too alien and different for much of a conversation.
Jim was blind to this by-play, or even thinking of the disguise as not being a man was something he hadn't considered.
He was assured there'd be a liaison officer to oversee his safety, and keeping herself anonymous too. With the key phrase to unlock Jim Adams if he made that necessary.
He solemnly swore that wouldn't be necessary, as the syringe was slipped into his vein, and the contents injected.
