A brisk wind wafted throw the trees. It was an hour after sunset and walking home was a couple who had strolled this route since before their marriage six years ago.
The Smiths.
The man shivered slightly, " Bit of a chill tonight. Should have worn something thicker."
The woman slides her arm under his and pulls him close to combine their heat, "It's a pity that wool scarf Nana gave you shrunk in the wash."
"Yay, what a tragedy," he whispered with a suspicious dose of sarcasm before planting a soft kiss on his beloved wife's rosy cheeks.
The man's name was Matt Smith, he was a normal-sized chap if slightly lanky in the limbs. His hair was a mop of thick brown hair and was nearsighted but preferred contacts. Matt worked as a manager at a big-time local factory. Matt was a quiet man who was often intimated by people with a loud personality. Yet he was also hardworking if easily stressed
The woman was Joanne or Jone Smith, she was a secretary at the local college. Her dark hair was cut into a medium-length bob haircut. Like her husband, she was of normal size if a bit wide around the middle in recent years. She was much like her husband being reserved and soft-spoken.
A married pair of shy and diligent would be a go description.
Their calm evening walk was violently interrupted by an ear-splitting crash and bright light.
"What was that?" gasped Matt.
From behind a clump of bushes rose thin white smoke.
If each were on their own they would have just left it as another mystery but they always felt bolder when together, such as when trying spicy Thai food.
With Matt cautiously leading the way and Jone on his back they peeked over the bushed to see a sizzling, shallow crater was a glowing rock.
Looking over her husband's shoulder Joanne's jaw dropped, "A meteor." Her brother, a geologist would be over the moon with this thing.
Suddenly a loud hum emanated from the space rock and was followed by a blighting white light. When the Smiths were able to see again the rock had crumbled into a few crumbled lumps of stone.
"Huh," said Matt, "that was a little anticlimactic. I think we should go home now Jo."
"Yes, I think we should Matty." Joanne followed him only after picking up a clump of the now fractured meteor.
Unknown to the couple, that flash was the meteorite releasing radiation which now followed throw their very body.
Once they slept a great change overcame them.
In the morning how will they discover this newfound power?
