"Hey, are you alright" you heard Terra asking, distracting you from your thoughts about how.. ominous the words of the Archmage were. From your rudimentary studies of magic you only knew it as something amazing, would it be capable of causing so much regret and suffering?
"Yeah, sorry" you mumbled and focused on what was going around you to not worry what could be your first friend here
"Well, let's go! Or don't tell me you're a boy in disguise" Terra teased and giggled, pointing at the group of female students that the keepers were sorting out on the other side of the room
"Huh? That's so mean" you said feeling a bit hurt by the comment. You took pride in being yourself instead of being popular but you were also a young woman that couldn't help but feel you were missing out on experiences and important moments due to not being popular enough, to not making enough of an effort to fit with the crowd. That included your looks and sense of fashion, and Terra's comment brought back those moments of insecurity where you felt you weren't noticed because you weren't pretty or feminine enough
"Oh, it was a joke I'm so sorry.. I'll make it up to you but we need to move" Terra said and pulled you toward the group with the other girls right on time before the groups separated to the respective dormitories.
You wanted to talk more with Terra during the walk, but with the crowd and the keeper shouting the convivence rules you couldn't find a good opportunity to do so. Most of the rules were nothing you didn't know about, stuff like keeping the room organized, use of the common areas, schedules and so on, although it struck you as odd when the keeper mentioned how males were strictly forbidden in the dormitories and allowing one to sneak in would result in swift punishment.
Finally the group made it to the building and the sight of how big and luxurious it was left you speechless. Looking at your side you saw Terra was also shocked by it.
"This is the biggest place I've ever seen" Terra said more to herself and you had to agree. It looked far better than the most expensive hotel you had stayed in with your family. Was this due to magic? Would it be possible to replicate something like this at all?
"Attention students!" A keeper that was wearing a red hat shouted, grabbing the attention of the crowd. She was a very tall woman and you found strange that it took you so long to notice her.
"It's time to assign your rooms, please form a line and each of you will grab the key corresponding to your room. Depending on the room you chose you will share the room with one or two students" The keeper announced and the crowd complied.
"I hope we can be roommates!" Terra said, lined up behind you
"I hope so too, it's a shame that we can't choose" You lamented
"It is, but that's one of the traditions of the Academy" a redhead girl that was in front of you said and shrugged after overhearing your conversation
"Oh.. I didn't know that"
"I only know it because my sister also studies here, but she couldn't tell me why they do it. I agree it's weird! Oh.. I'm Marie by the way" The redhead said with a friendly smile with Terra and you introducing yourselves back to her.
