Your keys gave some resistance as you pushed them into the door. Frustrated and fed up, you shoved them in and opened the door to your apartment.
Chad sat on the couch, his feet up on your coffee table, playing xbox.
"What's up twerp" He said non-chalantly.
Chad was your step brother. When you two were younger, he would pick on you relentlessly, bullying you in and out of home. Now, as fate would have it, you two lived together in the same apartment. It really wasn't your decision, but with the amount of rent you could afford, you didn't really have a choice.
"Chad, I need to talk to you." You already knew this was gonna suck. You'd just lost your job and the situation made it so that you probably wouldn't be able to find another one for awhile.You couldn't move home since your parents were in a retirement home, and you really had nowhere else to go. It was time to grovel and you already felt humiliated.
"Wanna blow me or something?" Chad grinned as he responded, not taking his eyes off the TV.
You explained your situation to him, trying hard not to sound to pathetic as you asked for his help.
"... So I'm really sorry to have to ask you, but is it ok to borrow money for rent? I have enough for the next month or so, but after that I'm not really sure.."
You finished and waited for a response. The entire time you were speaking, chad hadn't looked away from the screen. After about 10 seconds, you could feel your skin warming up from the embarassment. Finally he spoke.
"Fine."
You were totally surprised, and started thanking him in excess.
"You're gonna have to do anything I say though, from now on."
Not really sure what he meant, you instantly agreed. Doing some extra laundry and dishes wouldn't be an issue, you were just happy you didn't have to be homeless. You began to leave, exhausted and ready to sleep, when you were cut off.
