This choice: The raptor snarled, enraged, and jumped her • Go Back...Chapter #6The raptor snarled, enraged, and jumped her by: EvilFuzzy9   The raptor, juvenile or not, was clearly made of sturdier stuff than its size would suggest. Its head whipping back to the fore almost immediately, Sarah Harding only had a single, terrified moment to contemplate the gravity of her miscalculation.
Momentum carried her straight into the beast right as it pounced up into the air. It was too late to change her course.
The raptor's weight, the force of its leap, was concentrated into the tips of its sickle-like hind claws first. The talons were at chest level when Sarah collided with her erstwhile predator, and the sturdy, hardy scientist, even for all of her genuine strength and sturdiness in a pinch, simply could not challenge such a creature unarmed.
Not when more were right behind her.
Even as the first raptors hind claws tore excruciating into Sarah's modest breasts, ripping the supple flesh gruesomely, she could hear more coming up from behind. Even as she was knocked backwards, staggering for one or two seconds of horrified vulnerability, she could smell the rancid, sour odor of these creatures.
Then she landed on her back, the raptor atop her. The pain in her chest was intense beyond any real description, and in the corner of her eyes Sarah could see the bloody, mutilated mess of what were once her breasts as the curiously featherless dromaeosaurid dug its feet in.
More raptors darted forward, and they crowded all over and around Sarah. It was claustrophobic in the worst possible way. Their stench was overpowering, almost dizzying this close up, and the heat of their breath all but burned her skin.
They snapped indiscriminately at one another, no doubt fighting over which one would get the choicest parts. With a detached sort of weariness, Sarah noted that the raptors seemed to have very little social or hierarchical structure among themselves.
She could help but think how strange this was, for such obviously intelligent pack hunters. They were so quarrelsome and disorganized, like a bunch of children.
Well, in a way she supposed that was what they were.
Weakly, Sarah tried to fend off the bites as the raptors, now apparently having decided things, began snapping their heads forward to tear at her flesh. Her results were very mixed, considering that her hands were, to the raptors, as edible as any other part of her.
Sharp teeth ripped away the skin on Sarah's fingers. Blood poured from the wound, and the raptors continued to eat. Chunks the size of small apples, they tore out of the field researcher's muscular arms, and ones lower down began gnawing in earnest at her legs and feet.
Sarah was growing numb. Endorphines were flooding her body, dulling the pain, but she just didn't have anything left to give. She was much more fit and adept than most -- that was how she had lasted this long, fleeing the raptors when all of the others had been killed and eaten.
But even she was only human.
Weakly, she felt her arms fall down limply at her sides. One of the raptors, yellow gleaming eyes piercing for a split second into Sarah's own, leered at the scientist with a kind of cruel, bestial awareness, before ducking its head down to bite her neck.
