Velvet's ears flicked. She stopped in her tracks, leaving her companion to continue walking down the hallway until she picked up on the Faunus' absence from her side, stopped herself and turned halfway around.
"You okay there, V?" Coco asked curiously, an eyebrow risen just a little higher.
Velvet was staring down at her shoes; in particular, her left shoe, where she could have sworn that faint squishing sound had come from. She continued to stare at the foot for a second or two, wondering if she should lift it up and check the sole…
The Rabbit Faunus shook her head, dismissing the notion. The noise had probably just come from one the two dormrooms on either side of her. Her hearing, while incredible, sometimes got things muddled up, fooling her into believing a certain sound had come from there instead of there, particularly when she was exhausted. And having only come back from an incredibly draining mission that had went on far longer than anticipated yesterday, it was more than likely the case here.
“Yeah, Coco. It’s nothing.” Said Velvet as she skipped to her teammate’s side. “Guess I’m still exhausted from our last mission.”
Coco offered her a warm smile. “Hellish, wasn’t it? My muscles are still killing me.” She resumed walking, with Velvet keeping pace beside her. “It’ll be good to loosen up at the gym.”
Velvet nodded.
Little did Velvet know that stuck to the sole of her left shoe was the tiny, flattened form of one Blake Belladonna, and how with every step she took, the poor, defenceless Cat Faunus was subjected to incredible levels of pain as the near entire weight of Velvet's body came down upon that foot. Blake didn’t have the time to scream, to yell out, to beg, or even to whimper or groan in a bid to get the older girl to hear her; Velvet's eager footsteps cruelly refused to spare her it. Whenever she felt the open air on her back as the foot came off the ground, all to quickly was it replaced by painful darkness as the foot came down again.
There was nothing Blake could do but silently endure and wait, hope, for a chance to escape this nightmare, or for something, anything, to save her from it.
