She was noticeably shorter than you but seemed to have been in pretty good shape before she died judging by her muscles and lean sportswoman like figure. She looked awfully familiar to you even with the ghastly white tinge to her skin and the chunk of her forehead missing exposing a small amount of her brain. The realization hit you like a truck. "Monica?" You shout as you back away clutching at your wounded shoulder. Standing before you was your now noticeably deader girlfriend Monica smiling sheepishly as she tried to wipe blood from her lips. She didn't look half bad despite not technically being of the living any more. She didn't have any visible rot on her like you would expect just extremely gaunt skin, some visible damage from where you expected she'd been killed, and bloodshot eyes which made you think that the zombies of this universe were closer to the original voodoo zombies than the kind popularized by George Ramero.
"Sorry about that, it was completely involuntary. I just get the urge to bite people whenever I'm near them. A side effect of the zombification process I would guess." Monica said while composing herself.
You straighten yourself up when you see Monica still seems to have some sense of consciousness and isn't just a mindless murder machine although you do make sure to keep your distance from her. "What the hell happened to you?" You ask.
Your girlfriend raises her eyebrow. "I got a new haircut and WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENED, I'M A ZOMBIE NOW!" She says.
"I can guess that much, but why?" You ask.
Why is Monica now a zombie.
