Chapter #4

Little Lost Cindy

    by: Unknown
Jessica makes it to the doorway of the shop in time to see her imposter laughing and waving at her from across the courtyard of the mall. She is just about to run after her, only to suddenly find her right arm yanked back by the firm grip of the saleswoman.

“Mr. Baxter, your granddaughter is right here! Cindy! your grandpa is waiting for you over by the checkout dear. Come along with me now.”, chimes the taller sales woman. Jessica tried to pull her arm free from her grip, but she was no match for the full-figured 30-something woman. “Cindy! There you are! You gave your grandpa quite a scare there, little lady. Now here’s your pretty balloon and your ice cream.”, said the old man as he placed his wrinkly hand on Jessica’s slender shoulder, guiding her next to his leg.

The ride looked like a cartoon representation of a rocket-ship and wobbled about mildly while children’s straddled it like a saddle.

“Hurry, grandpa!”, said Jess, “I wanna ride the ride!”

“Okay! Whoa. Slow down some for your grandpa Cindy. I don’t get around like I used to, you know!”, and just like that, she had persuaded the old man to bring her out of the shop. The women in the boutique resumed their chatting, confident they’d reunited a lost girl in the mall with her grandfather.

Jess practically drags the lanky old fellow to the children’s ride, near where she lost sight of her imposter. Then, she asks him to hold her balloon and rapidly melting ice cream cone while she straddles the cold plastic seat of the ride.

Just then, perched on the ride, Jess thinks she spots the old man’s actual granddaughter, laughing at her plight from:
