Chapter #5Soft Landing and a Lesson on Queen Bees by: Unknown Lucky for you, you manage to land on Delia's mountain of a belly. It proved to be really soft, so you didn't get too hurt. Groggily, you stand up. The fuzz on Delia's body was only slighty shorter then you were.
"You alright down there?" Delia asked you.
"Yeah. I'm fine." You reply back.
"Well, since you're down there, think you could do some snipping down there? My fuzz gets itchy on my belly sometimes." Delia asks you.
You agree to do so. Prima hands you some large scissors so you can start cutting the fuzz. As you do so, you get curious.
"So, Delia, mind if I ask a few questions?" You ask.
"Sure" Delia replies.
"What's it like being a queen bee? I heard all they do is produce eggs."
"You're half right. The queens primary job is popping out eggs to keep the colony up, but some of us decide to take on other duties. Some queens do prefer only making more drones and do nothing else. I'm not one of them. Like I said, I deal in stuff like finances, relations, law creation, et cetera. There are some things I'm not part of, like directing honey gathering."
"How'd you become queen?"
"In my coloney, the next queen is chosen before the previous queen leaves. I was chosen due to being the queen's second-in-command for over 10 years. So, at 44, I became queen. And before you ask, as soon as I became queen, I was given a potion that made me massively pregnant. As soon as a pop out a bunch of eggs, new ones take their place."
"Are there any queens who don't make new drones?"
"Some. Obviously I'm not one of them. They leaving the egg making to someone else. Then there was Lita..."
"Why do you say it like that?"
"Well, she became queen at 26, and she's been pregnant with millions of young. Thing is, though, she loves being pregnant so much that she outright refuses to pop out any eggs. She hasn't produced a single egg in 30 years. That woman's belly is the size of a building now. They removed her from the queen position and appointed a new one. And even though she isn't queen anymore, she's still getting new eggs every day."
"Wow! Do you visit her at all?"
"Yeah, every week. I'm actually heading to her after I deal with the mayor." Delia then stops talking and thinks for a moment. Then she smiles. "You wanna see here?"
