The stuffed animal you were holding was a pretty big whale. More precisely, a killer whale. Being about 2 feet long, it had a night black color and contained the same white and gray spots on it's body most orca's have, including the white belly. You were amazed how life-like this stuffed animal was. Everything was right, the small fins, the curled tail and the blue, glass eyes were just how you'd imagine an orca to be like. Deep inside you realized Laura knew you better than you originally thought. Sea mammals were your favorite kind of animals, but you were too shy to admit it in front of your friends. This was because it included dolphins as well, and you had no clue how they would react. And you'd rather not find out. But Laura seemed to have forced through this layer of your inner self and had surprised you with this plush, in a good way. You thanked her, hugged her tightly with the stuffed animal still in your hand and went back to partying with your friends. It became one of the most amazing nights you had ever experienced.
When everyone had gone to their own home, you started to clean up the mess. Still slightly tipsy, you stuffed everything into the places where they belong. That's when you noticed your orca plush again. You gave it a good look and noticed something you hadn't seen before. A slight grin on it's face, almost as if it was amused looking at you, a bit unstable and wobbly walking. You smiled back, amused by the thought you made up yourself and took the stuffed animal with you to your bedroom. It didn't take you too long after you put on your pyjama's and brushed your teeth to fall asleep, holding the orca to your belly. You loved that. The feeling of soft fur against your skin. This orca was just long enough to fit between your head and legs, and so being the perfect length to snuggle in with. You whispered a "thank you" to Laura just before you drifted off into your dreams.
In the next couple of days you slept like a rock. The orca helped you fall asleep and let you forget the worries you had with your job and personal life. The relationship with Laura improved too, both because she knew you liked her present so much and you knew Laura had given you the perfect gift.
One friday evening you were lying in your bed, alone. Laura was on a holiday with her family, but because of your job, you had to say no this time. The temperature reached the freezing point of water outside, so you doubled the amount of blankets on your bed. You clinged the stuffed animal to your chest, and felt how your body's radiation warmed the fleecy orca skin. But right then you also felt something softly hitting your waist. And again, and once more. "That's weird", you thought, but when you rose up there was nothing moving. The orca was lying motionless.
"You couldn't have done that, right?", you spoke to the plush animal, slightly uncomfortable. The window wasn't open, there was no air moving in the room. "I probably imagined it", you continued, and got your self ready to sleep again. You picked up the stuffed animal, and saw to your surprise that it had it's eyes closed. "Huh?!", you yelled to no-one in particular, and wiped your eyes. You were not that tired, right? Or are you hallucinating? After you opened your eyes, you saw that the plush slowly opened it's eyes and once it noticed you were looking at him, it closed them again, really quick. "What the .." you spoke, now scared and backed off, falling to the ground next to your bed. Looking up again, you heard a faint whisper.
"Aaaand I have blown up my cover, shit, shit, shit! Why, why, why couldn't I just hold still for a moment?"
This was too much for you, it talked? Your stuffed orca talked?! And even moved! You crawled backwards, with you eyes still fixed on the orca and hit your head against the brick wall. Overwhelmed by sharp pain and confusion, you fainted.
... ... ...
"You're not the smartest kid in the world, right?" While you slowly got aware of your surroundings again, you heard a soft, female voice talking to you. You stumbled up, "Laura, is that you?", you asked, but once your eyes got sight of the room you saw it was someone different. "No silly, it's your stuffed animal, but you can call me Evelyn if you want to. I'm not so fond of being called after a fabric".
You give a slight squeak, not sure what to answer.
