Taking a deep breath, you decide to turn in two cards and go for a straight. Risky, yes, but you'd rather take risks now than later on. Miraculously, you don't completely screw yourself over; you pull a 5 of hearts and a Jack of diamonds. Your pair may have been demoted, but you don't complain: with what you just tried, that was probably one of the better outcomes.
Elizabeth easily takes the round with 3 9's. You and Zoey are each safe with a pair. Lilith, with a roll of her eyes, lays down an Ace high hand, and starts to stand up... until Lara lays down her cards to reveal a high 10. She and Sam share a glance, before they both remove their heavy, jungle-fairing boots. For a moment you see Sam hesitate; whether she was reconsidering her wager or considering what to take off, you don't know, but in a second she has her boots off, the same as her friend.
Elizabeth takes a moment to look at you, and then Zoey. "What will happen first, you think? One of us loses a second item, or one of you two gets a bad hand?"
You share a look with Zoey: at her grin, you return it, and you both simply shrug at Elizabeth, before gathering up the cards that you have been dealt.
