You held up the book open for mom to see the note; she turned slightly pale then took the book from you and placed it onto her desk. "I am a witch, John." Softly, she said. She summoned a flame to her hand to prove it, causing you to jump slightly. "I and your sisters have the power to harness and control the powers of magic."
"What does that have to do with me?" Curious, you asked.
"Only girls have this power." Patiently, mom replied. "You will have this power only if I or one of your sisters change you into a girl." she sighed. "As a boy, you have powerfully enhanced attributes; making you blessed physically."
"Is that why I'm the strongest boy in school?" Your curiosity rising, you asked.
Mom sat down and urged you to do the same before the door to her study closed quietly on its own. "Yes but that is only the tip of the iceberg, John." Smiling, she said. "You will develop incredible physical prowess that will match your sister's magic."
You smiled but it flattened with mom's frown. "As a twin to a witch, you may fall under a condition known as the twin factor which means you will change into a girl and a witch to match your sister to form a balance." Serious, she explained. "As you go into training for your physical powers, Mel stands the risk of changing into a boy to make the same balance."
"Ouch..." Wincing, you said. "I'd hate to know I was responsible for her being a boy for life."
Mom let out a low giggle. "Mel basically said the same thing only she would not mind having 'girl John' around for a few weeks." she said. She then turned serious. "There are two leading schools for the witch community; one for the boys and one for the girls. Both have been sending inquiries, hoping to entice you to sign up to their school."
"I see..." remembering the inquiry letters, you said. "What do you think I should do?"
Mom sighed, rising to her feet. "All I ask is that you trust me." Serious, she said. "I was heading out for some recreation; would you care to join me?"
