Chapter #4

Lookout

by: evil dude Author IconMail Icon
Hanson wasted no time in climbing to the top of the watchtower to scout out the surrounding area. "I'll take a look around up here while you head inside." he called as he opened a door leading to a tiny room. "Roger that, see if you can get anyone on the radio while I check the phones!" Randal called back as he disappeared inside the station below.

After shutting the door back Hanson took a quick look around him. Aside from a tiny table and chair there wasn't much to the place. About the only decorations were a torn rug on the floor and a small dream catcher mounted on the wall just above one of the cracked windows. What immediately caught Hanson's attention wasn't any of that though, but a small radio that was sitting atop the table next to a box of rifle bullets...smashed by a blunt object of some kind.

"Son of a bitch..." Hanson muttered as he picked up a fragment of the broken radio and tossed it on the floor. "Someone did this deliberately...they must not want anyone to know what happened here." He shook his head and grabbed the box of bullets. "At least Randal will some extra rounds for his gun."

Before leaving Hanson stepped outside the small watchtower and moved over to the side of the railing overlooking the cliff below him. It was hard to see more than 1000 feet with the bad weather and trees in the way, but one thing Randal had remembered to bring was a couple pairs of binoculars. Hanson grabbed his pair and took a quick look around at the surrounding area.

The hillside to the east was too steep to worry about, but some movement caught Hanson's eye near the forest below him. On the far edge of the lower trail a large horde of zombies was slowly making its way up towards the ranger station and would likely arrive within half an hour. "Oh shit." Hanson cursed as he looked around for a way to cut them off.

Just when he was about to give up hope he spied a worn wooden bridge connecting the trail over a long drop about 100 feet below him. If he could collapse that bridge before they reached him they would likely fall to their deaths trying to get across. "I just need to find some sort of fire or explosive." Hanson noted as he put the binoculars away and began climbing down the ladder.

Suddenly, a loud scream rang out as a shot fired inside the ranger station...Randal was in some serious trouble. "Fuck!" Hanson shouted as he jumped past the last few steps to the ground. "They probably have what I need to drop the bridge in storage, but Randal's in the main building! If I stop to help those monsters might make it across the bridge!" Without wasting another second Hanson broke into a sprint as Randal let out another scream and fired a second shot out of his rifle.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Try to help Randal

*Noteb*
2. Try to take care of the bridge

*Noteb*
3. Try to escape the station alone before the zombies arrive

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
