Chapter #3

His attention is caught by a glittering sparkle.

Drawn to a plain box, Harry opened it to see a piece of ornate jewellery. With a large blue stone embedded in a web of silver. Initially he thought it was a necklace, big enough to draw admiring eyes, to a suitably displayed cleavage.

It was only when he spotted the Eagle's head atop the gem, that he then recognised the web, as a pair of wings, and knew it was a crown. As he stroked the soft fabric of the box, he saw it lacked the chain of a necklace, too.

Pain flared, from his scar, as his fingers brushed over the engraved writing of the crown... tiara?

Snatching his hand back, he suppressed the idea of slapping it to the floor. Memories of Katie Bell sprang back to mind, and he instead slapped the wooden box closed.

His fingers itched and tingled, as he wandered on, deeper into the room. Until he found a thickly padded wing-back chair. It reminded him of the ones in the common room, though a little the worse for wear. Settling down, Harry was glad for a little privacy, peace and quiet. Free from the different demands placed on him.

Pulling a book, from his back, he gave a small snort, as 'Advanced Potion Making' came out. The tattered cover looking as fragile as ever.

Carefully folding, the cover down he traced his finger over the inscription. The faint indentation of quill scratches, a reminder of the mundane nature of the book. However, powerful and knowledgeable the previous owner.

He flicked ahead to the next section that Professor Slughorn had told them they'd be studying. He didn't want to lose his reputation in Potions, or the chance to impress him, any leverage that could help him retrieve that memory needed to be exploited. He wasn't sure he convinced himself, but it did no harm either. He knew the book wasn't imbued with any menace itself. A test he hated to admit he was reluctant to perform.

But, both Hermione and Ginny, were finally convinced. The pages crackled dryly as he turned them. His attention caught, by an arcane swirl on the previous page. He recognised it as a wand gesture, and beneath it. Pectore cresce, was the incantation, and beneath it, for enemies (witches).

He murmured to himself, once more Hermione's suggestion, that somehow, the Prince was female. Was this a spell, only a witch could cast, or was the target only to be a witch. Wandless his finger traced the path through the air, the spell unspoken as his lips moved silently. Perhaps, it was a weaker spell, like Sectumsempra, but somehow gentler.

Distracted, Harry glanced at his wrist. The old analogue watch, a replacement to his digital one. A cheap Casio, a present from the Dursleys one Christmas. The best present he'd ever received, until he saw it had come free with some breakfast cereal. Alas, digital watches and magic didn't mix, and he'd bought something more reliable from Diagon Alley. It's face aged yellow, and with two other smaller dials at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock, with the phases of the moon, the other being a tiny orrery, with the position of the planets.

It was almost time for his next class, easing himself up from the chair with a groan and a sigh, Harry headed off.
