Gone Wonderfully Wrong: the meanies new suit

    by: Redstreak Author IconMail Icon
"It take you 6 whole months of get enough tread for my suit" complained a man in a fitted suit who was clearly far richer then anybody has any sensible reason to be.

"We've only managed to get one spider to produce the right colour of purple, we're trying to breed from it but it'll take at least a year to make a new breed that reliably gives the right colour," groveled the cowed chief scientist

"Well motivate that spider to work harder, there's a military lab 3 doors down, I'm sure that they've got something."

"If we made it produce anymore it would be dead in a week along with any chance of breeding more of them," explained scientist

"Just make it happen, I don't care how," said the suited man storming off.

The chief scientist then wander off to the spiders cage. He gave the spider in it a small cube of spider chow brand spider food. "Sorry little guy, I know your trying as hard as you can. Its just your cut little spinneret can only do so much," reassured the scientist.

"I've just got any idea, its probably stupid though," chipped in a zit covered intern.

"Stupid ideas might just work in a stupid situation," the chief scientist Joked

"So the spiders to small to produce enough silk right"

"Right"

"So I heard the team in room 137 are growing giant scorpions to fight convicts or something. I heard there making real progress, perhaps we could adapt that research to use it on Mr Palps."

"Its worth looking into at least," the chief scientist said getting ready to go.

Firstly in looked a the cage again "I'm going for a bit, I'll be back soon" the spider then wandered off to play with dead fly it had found. It was being at bit rough with it.

"I keep thinking that that spider understands you," commented the Intern

"I'm sure it goes, intelligence is far more common then we might expect."

They then left the lab.

...

"Well that answers that, it is working" said the Chief Scientist (Adam) as he saw a golden retriever sized scorpion walking around the lab.

"Is it safe?" asked the intern (Keith) who was standing well back.

"Completely, we've pretty much turned off all of its aggressive behavior, its actually kind of adorable"

"I'll just take your word for it" said Keith only moving slightly closer

"So how did you do it" asked Adam

"Getting it do grow was actually pretty easy, we just continuously stimulate its glands of produce growth hormone and make sure it doesn't get cleaned up. Then all we have to do is make sure it was well feed," boasted a scientist

"It looks way healthier then it should be, growing this big should have caused problems with air supply, blood pressure, nutrition and many more problems, it must have been hard to solve all those problems."

"Oh we didn't solve the problems, we made it so automatically mutates into a more healthy state."

"How." asked Adam

"We've rejigger all the cells in its body so that we they are but under great stress they flood the surrounding cells with a potent mutagen. The cells then constantly mutate to the problem is solved after which mutagens are cleaned up and they carry with their new genome."

"Genius, so what new mutations have turned up."

"The feeding tubes has harden into a skeleton for sorts, it has grown a selection of pseudo lungs all across its body and its intelligence was increased dramatically"

"Do you think that who could get that to work on other animals." asked Adam

"No doubt, any thing in mind"

"Yes this one", he said showing a picture of Mr Palps

"Oh Mr Palps, we were helping he would be next, he's so cute, I've already got a solutions made up for him"

Adam was shown a tiny syringe. "It has to be an injection, is the only way to make sure it hits the whole body" explained the Lady scientist in charge of this lab

"Are you sure this is safe" asked Adam

"Certainly, I've already tried it on a spider I found in the bathtub."

"Thank you, I'll tell you how it goes"

...

"Mr Palps please stay still, his will make you big and strong" reassured Adam.

He then carefully injected Mr Palps with the solution. He then connected a second larger cage to Mr Palps cage, this one had more then a thousand times the food and water he normal had in a day.

Following this Mr Palps was weighed and measured in every possible way and had today's silk extracted and put on the coil. Then it was time for them to go home.

"Night night, Mr Palps" they Both said as they left

When they came back tomorrow they were surprised and delighted to find out
