Chapter #1Everything Laid Bare- Occult and Antiques by: Teraton The soft clink of a bell rings throughout the store as you enter. You hardly notice the door sliding shut behind you as you gaze at the shelves, which are lined with some of the strangest things you’ve seen in your life. Warped candles, strange idols, vials of multicolored liquid; at some point you see… what looks like a mummified monkey’s hand? Shaking your head, you step further into the store.
“Ah, a customer!”
You jolt and turn as short, elderly man comes through a door behind the counter. He has gnarled hands, and his face sags with wrinkles, but at the corners of his mouth you see a smile, and in his eyes you see the sparkle of a younger man’s energy.
“Yes, yes, hello! Welcome to Everything Laid Bare, my humble shop of curios!” The man steps out from behind the counter and shakes your hand. “Whether it is out of desire, curiosity, disbelief: I am very happy to see someone in this store. Please, come take a look around , and I’m sure you will find something that catches your eye.”
“We have a variety of jewelry and other accessories. Gemstones that sparkle on golden chains, and what’s more, they give you powers beyond your wildest imagination! Be warned though: these powers can be as much of a curse as they are a blessing. When you find yourself wanting them gone, you might not be able to part with them, and when you absolutely need them, they may fail you.”
“We also have potions of all kinds. Potent things- I brewed them myself! If you have ever desired to change yourself, simply imbibe and benefit from their effects! Though I must say: as potent as they are, their effects will wear off, though whether that is a good or bad thing depends on both the tincture and the timing.”
“We also sell wands, if that may interest you. The power to change the world around you, right at your fingertips! All it takes is a bit of focus and a flick of the wrist, and you will see for yourself. That being said, these things have a tendency to change hands very quickly, and you may lose your new toy. And be careful how you use them, or their next owner might turn the tables on you."
“The store also carries various relics, ancient treasures with long histories. Each is said to harbor some sort of power behind it, and each is a marvel of history. You must be wary, however; some say they have minds of their own. Do not insult them, or you may find yourself at the mercy of your new purchase.”
“Of course, if none of that interests you, I’m sure I can find something else in the back room.”
