I can check out the rides later, Daniel decided, stepping onto the sand. He was happy to see that while there was a fair amount of other people there, the beach wasn't too crowded. He found himself a nice spot and set down his backpack. As he opened it, and laid out his towel, he couldn't help but notice the wand he had packed.
"Huh", Daniel muttered, sitting down on the towel and examining the wand, "why'd I even bring this thing?" Dan held it up to look more closely, when the sight of something past it drew his eyes away. The woman from earlier either didn't notice or didn't care, but she had her towel laid out nearby Dan's. As embarrassed and slightly guilty as Dan had felt for staring before, he couldn't help but stare again as she stood there, facing away from him, rubbing suntan lotion onto her arms.
Thoughts of this stranger filling his head, Daniel leaned back, the wand held loosely in his right hand, pointed in her direction. For a moment, he felt perfectly relaxed.
It was then that he felt a jarring sensation up his right side, like pins and needles, but gone almost as soon as it started. When Daniel looked down at the wand, he noticed a faint glow along the patterns carved into the wood, and his eyes almost bugged out, as he looked up just in time to see the same glow playing across the fabric of the woman's suit.
