Chapter #5

Wrong Side of the Door

    by: Doom Author IconMail Icon
Crap, why was it that you closed the door when you wanted to get back inside the room? You scrabble at the sheer face of the immense edifice, but it's too flush to the floor for even your ant-size form to crawl under.

You back away from the door and look across at the shrinking machine, which you've left out here in the open. You can use it to quickly restore your size to undo this mistake, and no-one need ever be the wiser!

As you approach it though, you can hear the thunderous tread of a human approaching. A normal person, but to tiny you they are a colossal giant, infinitely more powerful than you! In a panic, you look back and forth for somewhere to hide yourself, but in this vast hallway there's nothing but your shrinking machine itself!

Those moments of desperation are enough for the approaching titan to crest the stairs and turn toward you, gargantuan sandals holding up the impossibly tall form of Rachel Anderson. You only have a second to take in her grandiose stature before she resumes her journey, trampling toward her bedroom!

"Hmmm?" she rumbles, her voice falling on you like thunder. "What's that?"

Oh! She's seen your note! And the curiosity that inspires that has doomed you.

Rachel had been intending to just enter the bedroom directly, and would have stepped right over the ant at her feet. Instead, with an interesting note to read, she brings her feet down directly before the door. Even as she reaches out to pluck the post-it with her fingers, her heel brings a full half of her crushing weight down upon the tiny shrunken survivalist, annihilating him without even noticing.

The note brings a raised eyebrow from the woman, but she shrugs it off and picks up the piece of junk lying in the corridor to throw into the trash.

THE END.

You've come to the end of the story. You can:
