Chapter #5Giga, Mason Melnick by: Ctbro   This superhero was none other than Mason Melnick, a Junior in high school like Ben. However, he attended a rival school in the city, and the two had never met previously. Mason was new to his powers, having developed them after being exposed to an unusual radiation during a field trip to Kingleton Corporation, King Corp for short. It was an event well know by everyone. The accident had effected many in the area, altering genes to bestow a variety of abilities.
Even though he was still learning about his powers, he was quick to dawn a simple costume and try his best to stop other enhanced individuals from the accident at King Corp. The people had come to call him Giga. His base power was absorbing and harnessing energy. He could take in vast amounts of energy, such as heat, radiation, and electricity, and create blasts of power to strike. Two sub-powers naturally developed from his base, enhanced strength and enhanced durability. He could lift objects of immense weight and his body was nearly impervious to damage, so long as he had enough energy stored within his body.
On the day of the accident, Giga, or Mason Melnick, was battling a fellow enhanced human from the accident. People fled as their fighting escalated. Cars were thrown, and walls were destroyed as the two battled. The villain, knowing they could not defeat Giga, put a few people in danger. Giga was of course forced to intervene and stop the citizens from being crushed by a collapsing building. Even though he had just saved people from harm, he was angered at himself for letting the criminal escape, again. He picked up one of the already beaten up cars and tossed it into an empty alleyway. Or what he had thought was an empty alleyway. Giga was just fast enough to keep the vehicle from completely crushing Ben, but the damage was done.
In the hours that came after the incident, Mason Melnick eventually revealed himself and his intentions on saving Ben. Working with specialists from King Corp, a special surgery was quickly planned. The same radiation that gave Mason his powers would be used to temporarily neutralize them, as that was the only substance known to block an enhanced human's powers. Surgeons wore special gear in order to prevent absorbing any radiation themselves. Ben's battered body was rushed to the King Corp facility, and the complex, controversial medical procedure began. Using highly advanced equipment, the doctors attached and merged the healthy portions Ben's body into Mason's, combining their genetic material. The end result was a typical teenage male body, save the two heads sharing the same shoulders.
The procedure of course was completed to save Ben's life. But the scientists at King's Corp were also interested in learning how the radiation and medical procedure would alter Ben's and Mason's physiology. Would Ben share Mason's powers? Would Ben develop his own set of powers? Would they develop all new, joint powers? The doctors were eager to find out.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
