The rest of the staff should have known something was wrong when Charlotte entered work one evening with a big grin on her face. They had no idea of the chaos she had already wrought on her own family with her new ability. She had awoken that morning after a vivid dream and immediately she knew she had the power to switch people's heads around, including her own if she wanted.
And now she was at work, at Wilko, a place she usually hated being at. But now... things would liven up for sure. She would start work as normal, she decided, but if she got bored (which was highly likely) or if someone pissed her off, then she would use her ability on them.
"Evening Charlotte!" Liz was the first to greet her as she walked in, texting on her phone.
"Yeah, hi." Charlotte mumbled her response as she sent a friend a message.
"Be sure to leave that in your locker okay, phones are not allowed on the shop floor" Liz told her employee, who just rolled her eyes and sighed. She already knew this, and didn't need Liz to remind her.
"I know, don't worry, I'll leave it in my bag" Charlotte said, remaining calm. She then walked out of the Goods In area and onto the shop floor. She passed Becky and greeted her politely, since she had gone to school with her, and then she passed Luke, who she had also known personally before starting to work at Wilko. He was the older brother of another former classmate of hers. "Hey Lukey boy!" she grinned, causing him to turn around.
"You're looking strangely happy tonight" Luke frowned, slipping his hands in his trouser pockets as he normally did. He wasn't exactly the most enthusiastic worker in the store.
Charlotte just kept smiling. "Yeah well, maybe I have a reason to be" she replied.
"You'll have to teach me to be happy in this dump some day" Luke said, scratching his head.
