Introductions done, it was time for the main act to start. The magician entered the stage to a round of applause, took his hat from Mackenzie, and bowed. It was time for the first act to start: the classic disappearing act.
It was Mackenzie's turn to be this assistant for this trick. It was actually a very simple trick, although it looked impressive. The magician led her over to the box from which he would maker "disappear." Once inside, Mackenzie would attach her specially designed corset to a little hook on the back wall. The box would be lifted up with her still inside, then taken off-stage so she could reappear at a later time.
Mackenzie waved to the crowd and stepped inside, the magician closing the door behind her. It was partially because this act was first that Mackenzie was nervous- she'd done it many times, but she still wasn't confident in her ability to attach herself to the hook properly. She was a little short, so she had to stand on her toes to attach herself, the hook was tiny, and she could never see what she was doing back there. It also required her to wear this particular corset- and only this corset- the whole show.
On this particular night, Mackenzie was having a lot of trouble getting herself hooked in. The hook just wouldn't line up with the little loop on her corset! Outside the magician was continuing with the act- "...after I say the magic words, my assistant will be gone forever! Well, until I bring her back, I mean!"
Time was running out, and she still couldn't get herself attached! The magician performed his magic outside and was preparing for the big reveal. She only had one more chance! Hayley jammed her back into the wall and thought she felt herself finally get attached, but she'd only hooked herself to the box by the actual material of the corset.
A drumroll played over the speakers, the box started to lift up, and...
