Alex yawned as he worked on his invention. it was late, but he didn't want to stop working. the Dimension hopper had multiple flaws, glitches that could be dangerous if mass produced. and what inventor creates something that he purely wants for himself, right?
while the random coordinate generation was the problem he was trying to fix now, there was also that overload problem that causes the device to be lost. not lost as in destroyed, but lost by it's definition: put somewhere randomly in the dimension. surprisingly, the device always seemed to appear somewhere within the dimensions story line, generally towards the end.
the device was connected to the computer, which whirled and beeped at random points. occasionally the screen would show a binary code, or a voice would say something like
"error, objective not found" or "power source inactive"
generally either one determined the difference between progress and...whatever the opposite was.
