A bundle of energy and emotions, Chie Satonaka is the most athletic and (with the possible exception of Kanji Tatsumi) the most physical member of her investigation team. Preferring to keep her brown hair short, Chie is an avid fan of martial arts movies, and has sought to emulate them as much as possible in little "training sessions" she puts herself through each day (many under the supervision of the team's leader, Yu Narukami). On her off days she loves nothing more than to laugh with friends and enjoy some tasty steak! This has given her a very toned body, with a flat stomach, firm butt, and of course a lovely pair of legs. While her chest is the smallest out of her circle of friends (something she is no doubt painfully aware of!) her lovely and perky breasts are nothing to be scoffed at.
Under most circumstances Chie will be wearing a typical Yasogami highschool uniform, including a white and blue undershirt with the school emblem on the collar, a yellow "sailor" sash tied around her neck, and a short black skirt, and a pair of white socks and thick brown shoes (probably steal toed, as they serve as both her footwear and weapon of choice in battle). In addition, Chie has added her own touches to the outfit. Under her skirt she wears a pair of tight black exercise shorts, around her neck she wears a small necklace and she is seldom seen without her green and yellow jacket with a few whimsical buttons pinned on the outside. Out of school she likes to similarly dress in greens and yellows, sometimes equipped with colorful armbands.
Chie was a normal high school student before the mysterious murders began to plague her town of Inaba. She had heard a rumor about a so-called "Midnight Channel" that would show one who gazed into a TV at midnight their soul mate. Eager to try out the rumor, Chie incidentally began the chain of events that would lead to the formation of the investigation team. She was present for the initial "discovery" of the TV world, and was a part of the original team to save someone who had been thrown in by the mysterious killer.
Chie is in many respects the opposite to Yukiko Amagi. Where Amagi is calm, polite, and a bit withdrawn Chie is enthusiastic, impatient, and outgoing to a fault. She will be the first to rush into danger, fearless and passionate. At the same time, she seldom looks before she leaps, meaning it is often the job of the other members of team to reign in her well-meaning but occasionally shortsighted behavior. According to Chie's shadow the girl has purposefully tried to garner an impression of superiority and domination over her long time friend Yukiko to make up for her own perceived lack of feminine charms and inability to accomplish anything alone. After attaining a persona Chie sought to become more self-reliant and strong, wanting to become the protector in truth that she had always claimed to be. However, she remains extremely self-conscious about herself, especially when it comes to her body and her perceived lack of feminine qualities. No doubt this will make her impending nudity all the more mortifying.
There are other questions about herself Chie has thus far avoided thinking about. Prominent amongst them is her true feelings over Yukiko. Why was SHE specifically so very important? Was it all a matter of jealousy and manipulation on Chie's part...or something else? And what about her shadow's final "berserker" form? Did all those whips and chains, gaudy yellow leather "dominatrix" wear, and the throne made out of subordinate school girls imply some heavy handed symbolism from her subconscious? Or are there some passions Chie has yet to fully grasp about herself? Only time will tell.
