Rise steeled herself. She had to act like it wasn’t a big deal or the others would never agree.
“Oh please! You’re trying to intimidate us with a little streak?”
The others turned to her, mouths agape.
“Are you insane?!” yelled Chie. “I’m not going out there!”
“Shh! Chie, keep your voice down! They’ll hear us!” Yukiko finally piped up in a desperate whisper.
“Who will? Everybody’s in the auditorium waiting for us! If anything making them wait is more risky.” Rise tried to sound matter-of-fact, but the others could easily see the light blush on her cheeks and the trembling of her legs.
“My my, aren’t you brazen!” Kashiwagi said with a mocking tone. “Just like a harlot pop star to sound so excited. Not Miss Yasogami material at all if you ask me.”
Rise ignored her and went for the door. She felt a wave of hesitation as she peeked out into the hallway to check if the coast was clear, but seeing nobody, she pressed on. “Nobody’s around. Come on girls, it’s like, 45 seconds, tops. Nobody will see anything!”
The others hurried after her, not wanting to be left behind.
“No, no no no, you can’t! We have to go back!” Yukiko stammered. But they had already stepped out into the hall.
Kashiwagi pursued, closing the classroom door behind them, causing Yukiko to let out a terrified squeak. “Bold, very bold.” Kashiwagi sounded the slightest bit... annoyed? Rise could never tell with this overly-theatrical woman. “Hurry along now. Single file. Arms at your sides, no shameful posture.”
The four were herded along like cattle, bare feet slapping against the cold Yasogami High floors. Rise could feel her heart pumping faster in her chest, urging her to move quickly, for everyone’s sake.
