This choice: She desperately chases after someone for help. • Go Back... author: UnderHerToes
June crouches down, shoes sinking into the soil as she rests on her toes, trying to be as careful, as non-threatening as she can. Still twice as tall as the tallest building around, June groans a worried gasp as she takes trembling hands upward. She sweeps away the draping, black curtain from her face, revealing both big, brown eyes to the smaller world before her. Cars are left abandoned in the parking lot, nothing more than toys left after play. People flee through the trees; their panicked screams sharp in June's receptive ears. "Wait," June whispers to them, the breath accompanying her word enough to stir the peaks of tree limbs beside the lot.
A car door clearly slams shut nearby; June quickly turns to the origin. Climbing into a bulky sport utility vehicle at the far end of the black field, a group of suited teachers scramble to escape together. June's eyes clearly recognize some of the minor details of the occupants as they look back before pulling their doors closed. "Wait!" June calls to them, reaching out unsuccessfully, as they bound away, the last of the schoolyard attendants around. June crawls over to them across the green carpet, her knees digging into the ground as she implants her weight. "Come back!" She yells, followed by pathetic cry, "I need help."
Not letting her chance disappear, June stands up, able to see over the trees as the car moves down the road. With eyes focused on their vehicle, she steps blindly forward. Her shoe comes down with resistance, meeting metal crunches and shattering glass. June pulls back with a screech, looking down at the near flattened sedan left skewed on bent tires and buckled frame. She leaves it behind in her mind, and takes two short, heavy, bouncing steps into the middle of the parking lot, the asphalt beneath her soles warping, cracking under her weight. Looking at the road ahead, June notices the SUV approaching the business district of glass office buildings and shopping centers, perchance to lose her in the gridwork. June takes one big step towards them, crashing through the trees by her knees. | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
