This choice: You're at Rebekah's apartment. • Go Back... author: SilverFlame
Suddenly, your whole world begins falling apart. All the makeup begins collapsing. You hold your arms up to protect yourself as you feel the purse lifting in the air. You can hear the car door open and can barely hear Montana's footfalls down below. There's a door opening, some walking up stairs (the jostling makes you feel like you're going to be sick), another door opening, and finally, everything stops.
The purse is unzipped and left on its side. You slowly crawl out, finding yourself on a coffee table in front of a couch. You quickly realize it must be the professor's apartment. You turn around and see Sandra talking to Montana, who is seated on the couch.
"So how long will it take to fix us?" Sandra asks.
"Well, first I have to fix the transposer. I'm going to need your help for that," she explains to her tiny sister as you join her. "It's too small for me to work on like this, and I do not have a spare. We just need it working enough for it to restore itself. The fail-safe mechanism must have broken in the crash. Once I get a better look at it, it shouldn't take too long..."
Sandra breathes a sigh of relief, but doesn't hear her sister follow up with, "... I hope." You did hear it and decide to keep it to yourself. You're well aware of the situation and how mangled the matter tranposer is. You'd be lucky if you ever get it working again, but still... there's hope.
Montana suddenly gets to her feet, "Hey are you guys hungry? I'll get some food for you. We're going to be here a while anyway." She walks away to the kitchen, leaving you and Sandra alone. Sandra turns around to face you, a faint smile on her face.
"Sorry about my sister... although she is kind of right to be angry at you, you know."
"Yeah, I suppose so, but she could still be a little more gentle." You sit down and put your head in your hands. "It's just... it was something I wanted so badly. It was my dream come true. And I'm so sorry for getting you into this. God, this is all my fault."
"Yes, it is." Sandra says with a laugh. "But hey, we're still alive, right? You crashed into the right person, didn't you? My sister found us, and you two can get to work fixing the thing together. Meanwhile, I won't mind taking an unexpected vacation from work. Being this small might even be fun for a while."
"Nice to see someone always looking on the bright side of things."
"No point doing otherwise." She sits down next to you and puts an arm around your shoulder. "Things'll work out. We'll grow back, you can do something about my car," she emphasizes this by squeezing your shoulder, "and then, well, maybe you can take me for some dinner or something."
You look at her in surprise, and you're about to answer before Montana appears, a tray of food in her hands. There's a bowl of water for the two of you to drink from, some crackers, and some slices of fruit that are as big as you are.
You sit around together and talk about the upcoming repairs while snacking. Most of the scientific discussion goes over Sandra's head, and admittedly, some flies over yours too. There's good news and bad news during the discussion, but the professor appears to be warming up to you again.
She stands up, dusts crumbs off her coat, and takes the food away. When she returns, she says she will need special equipment from the lab in order to get started on these repairs. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
