"I-I," stuttering, surprised, you struggle to reply, "I-I, of, of course, Miss Montana." You run your fingers by your ear and down your cheek, rubbing the disbelief off your face in a daze. "Where should we begin? How should we test this Professor Montana?" You ask with a bit more than a hint of eagerness.
She strolls away for several steps, formulating her thoughts until she returns with them, "First, we're partners in this now, Scott, and you may address me as Rebekah if you choose. We're equals here." You nod along as she paces around you. "Second, you cannot tell anyone what goes on here. I thought I was quiet enough, but still you found out, so be careful with what you say from now on." This is seeming more complicated with each word. "Third, we need to test this in such a way, that we can get valuable data." She smiles slightly and takes the glasses from her shy eyes. She studies you, "Really valuable data."
"I volunteer, Miss Rebekah!" you burst rather loudly. "I mean, I'll be a, I'll let you, we'll test it on me. A small scale test." She keeps her eyes on you, her smile getting wider. "A shrinking experiment?" She still doesn't answer. "Right? We can do that?"
She stops. You stop. She sparks up again, "I knew there was a reason I liked you, Scott!" She comes toward you, standing barely eye-level with you, her rich, auburn hair bouncing on her shoulders with life. "Wonderful, wonderful! This will be the most amazing experiment of my life! Oh! And yours too! Yours too!" She moves around with such gleeful energy, it's hard to connect this sprightly young woman with the calm, civil professor you've seen over the years. "Come over here. No stay there! There!"
She slides across the floor and adjusts the transposer, taking no further input from you, placing the dial at her desired setting. "Okay, Scott. Here we go." You don't bother to prepare yourself for what you can't expect, and instantly a white beam of light flashes all around you. You hear Rebakah call out through the bright blindness, "Oh my! Oh my!"
'Did something go wrong? Am I still alive?' you wonder.
As your certainly solid hands wipe your white vision clear, you come face to face, eye to eye with an enormous entity, a gleaming angel of excitement lying flat with hands supporting her delicate chin. She laughs as you jump back, a warm, sweet breath blowing from her mouth. You look around the room and everything seems so out of proportion, so new and different. Then Rebekah whispers to you in a golden, heavenly voice.
